with that rateo yoour looking at an over all rateo of 60 to1 which would be aproxamatly 4mph. try setting up your rateo so the pullys are 2 to 1 and the chain is 5.4 to 1 and keep your tranny as is. all of this would bring your total rateo to 8 to 1 a top speed of about 30mph and good acceleration. good luck

well i dont have much experience with tractors, lol, but besides the point i still need to start at a slower speed then i'd like to go even higher than i have now, perhaps double my speed.

one thing i remember hearing about is a cone shaped pulley where the belt moves to the higher width when the engine turns faster, have you heard of anything like this?

There really is only so much you can do with two speeds. You can have a nice low range, and a nice high range, but if the spread between them is too great, you won't be able to make the shift without over-revving or lugging. You'll have to find the best compromise in ratios.

Cone-shaped pulley? Yeah. Called a CVT.

Well, that is a doable solution, but just I stated before, don't expect too much from it. Select a high ratio that is reasonable for your engine/weight/tire size. Say, 5:1. For the low ratio, maybe double that (ie 10:1). Again, you don't want too much spread between gears, or you're going to have to wind it way out in 1st, then bog it going into 2nd. Try to arrange things so that there's a bit of overlap in engine speed between the top of first gear, and the bottom of second. When you calc things out, if first gear takes you to say, 20mph, make it so that second gear works out to say, 15mph at idle...

Yep. I probably coulda spent an extra $20 and just bought a used CVT, but whats the fun in that??
thats from the the 2 speed belt tensioner thread. i do agree with him when he says whats the fun in that, but if your look ing at things from a performance stand point a torque converter would get you to say 40mph while still burning ruber when you put your foot down. just a suggestion

Im too lazy to read the whole thread, but i noticed that your tensioner is on the wrong side of the belt. that will cause it to slip a lot more than normal. that may have been mentioned already.

huttronics , I went down to Harbor Freight to day and found those exact tires for $45.99 it was posted that they were 12" tires but I think that was wrong. it said that they were rated at 50mph the part # was 44144. I was also looking at 44143, 8" tires
But anyways I'm looking at building a mini bike in the future and those type of tires are somthing that I might use, dont know yet.
