I'm new here, and I'm about to build my first go kart. I basically already know what I'm gonna do and how to hook things up, accept for one problem. I don't know how to hook up the throttle cable or the gas pedal to the engine to make it go. I'm going to be using a chainsaw engine. Any tips?

I don't know that i've seen any good photos of a chainsaw engine successfully used for anything (except that sweet vid of the 20+ chainsaw motorcycle)....

How will you hook the sprocket up?

Chain saws have a centrifugal clutch on them, so my guess is the same way you would use a different motor. IDK if a chain saw would get you going anywhere though.

I would look at getting a more powerfull engine, unless its one of those 3' bar 8HP pro grade ones. My guess is if it works you will get up to about 10mph and replace it when you get bored with it. You can get cheap/free engines at alot of places. I would look around first. Schools with engine programs use old engines that they just throw out, look for a small dirtbike engine and put it back together.

Good luck though!

I work on chainsaw daily, I know if you set the chain on a log with some pressure, the chain wont spin, I would be interested in knowing how you would get the kart moving from a stop, I am sure once it got going it would be a mover..:)

Just my two pennies

on youtube there are a few videos of people using chainsaw motors works just like anything else .You will have to do a little bit of rigging up to get it to work.:idea2:
