Looking through old threads, I think Doc Sprocket, maybe it was Russ????

Somebody was adamant the plastic cams were ok, but maybe inside the governed engine???

I did some research briefly into "plastic" camshafts and other parts. Seems to be rather widespread as even Honda uses plastic in their CS series engine. There might be an all plastic engine out there too.

I read that too about the plastic cam having a decent service life in a governed engine. This whole matter needs to be explored in depth...

I say keep that oil changed and use the cheap digital tachometer/hour meter as a service indicator!

Just for clarity...(not everyone will know...heck I'm not sure COMPLETELY) ....but Bob decided to remove the governor...and that's it....not the cam.

And where I'm not 100%....this is the Honda, not the Tecumseh, right?

Set your lash at Top Dead Center.
When Compression turns over into power stroke.

Both the intake and exhaust are on the camshaft base circle.
Guessing. 0.003", but I have an awesome technician's service manual for that stuff!

This is the Tecumseh.

I don't have the Honda yet.
The guy may be jerking me around.

I will get the billet rod.
I will wait on a response for the cam.

If I can get a steel cam, then I might get a carb???

Don't forget the compression release.
This fell out.
I don't have a picture.

Seems to fit like this, but this can't do anything????

It would need to be on the inside of the gear to bump the lifter????

**** it!!!

To google images and my Tec Tech Man Manual.

You owe me ten minutes of my life back Bob for watching that video. It should have been entitled how to fumble around trying to work on an engine one handed.

The printed literature however, was very informative and entertaining.

I rekkon you was jumpin fer joy when you read them thar valve seats could be regrounded. :cheers2::lolgoku:

I think Jay Cutler got regrounded when he got flagged for intentional grounding. His mommy is tough.

So I guess these small block overhead valve Tecumsehs are "patently unfit for racing"
and "brittle to say the least"
And some have "exploded a bunch of them"

All that being said.....
I'm looking into the Animal Engines now.
I guess a F-200 is a spin on a H50 engine.
They make cams for the F-200 Animal (??? is the f-200 an Animal) which may work in a H50, which may work in a OHH50

I should probably NOT continue to build a grenade.

What to do. With no gov, I don't feel it is safe without a rod.
With a $60 rod, it still will have a plastic cam.
Stiffer springs will probably screw up the plastic lobes on the cam.

So my only real option, IMO, is to ...

get the $60 Rod,
keep the stock plastic cam,
keep the stock valve springs,
port the intake manifold and head,
Shave the Flywheel key,
Look into this claim that the butterfly only opens 75% and needs to be trimmed?

And call it done.

But maybe this will work????

F200 ANIMAL Racing Cam: #GPF200
Lift: .275 inch
Duration: 240 degrees
Lobe Seperation: 110 degrees

GPF200 • One new #GPF200 F200 ANIMAL racing cam

So the weight on the compression release doesn't bump anything.
The shaft that the weight rotates on is flat on one side and round on the other.

The round side holds the intake open a bit longer.
The flat side misses the lifter.

This looks OK to me.

Maybe work the short radius on the manifold?
Wonder why people say this manifold is so bad?

And YES it is possible to set lash with out a feeler gauge.

I wanted to test my eyeball.

I was 0.001" wider than I wanted to be.

I said this looks/feels like 0.003".

It was 0.004"

There is a metal tang on the carb.

It seems to be used as a throttle stop and idle setting.

If I bend it in one direction, the butterfly seems to be able to open a bit wider. (not sure if it completely parallel with the bore of the carb, but it is better)

However bending this tang this way doesn't allow the throttle plate to close all the way.

With out removing it, it is tricky to bend.

Lets see if I can get a picture after I try to get it bent how I like.

Not my carb but a tang like this.

Lets say the tang hits the flange and stops.
If I bend it to open wider....
The tang hits the body of the carb instead of the screw when closed
