okay!

I got free from 9th grade today and I have got 17 days for myself!
:cheers2::cheers2:

So I will be thinking of building a minibike from bicycles and electric motors........:stir::stir::stir::stir:

I have got questions........

should I take a stock frame and slap all things on it? or go custom?

second, can bike batteries handle starter motors?

third, is a solenoid good enough to replace a motor controller? ( i got no choice either...... nobody sells motor controllers here)

look under ebike motors as for bike batteries NO. A controller motor and batteries will set you back about 700 bucks US I'd just buy a 50 cc and do the gear thing

You can buy bike engine kits for under 200 bucks any mountain bike will handle it fine and you can do 60-80 kmph with them i've had one. Get a boke with disc brakes

Oh hi...

I like that scooter in your previous post,
I think I've even seen that with an electric motor off the shelf...

Mach1, or Forca IIRC.
[EDIT]
ah well almost
Forca E-Cruizer

I somehow had the downhill-king in mind being electric

[EoE]

Anyways,
I'd say go electric.
It's a more or less "lightweight" setup
with a 1kW DC Motor ($100)
and it's matching controller ($30)
and a nice battery pack (well depends.. let's say $100 max)
you have a ton of fun, clean and quiet fun..

where is this frame sold ? I wanna put a engine on one.

Those are sold mostly in Switzerland.

And Sid, I think I'll make the frame full custom, have fun with it minus a power unit and slap a bike starter motor with all the electricals later

uhhhh a bike starter will NOT provide enough power I'm afraid;
that is if you don't talk about big bikes here (say a 1200cc ++)
in which case a bike starter is more expensive than a motor MADE for your purpose ;)

IIRC there's an indian company selling really good hub motors in the 750-1000W region..
I can't recall the name ATM, I found it via tradeindia a few month back...
Maybe you want to check yourself ;)

Umm..... After this I think an engine would be better. Anybody got a chainsaw?

Here, batteries and controllers are the only problem here. How about a controller off an electric scooter and an 800cc starter off a car? And what about the batteries?

You would need to use a starter off a large car (4.0L+) and run it at low load if you want it to survive for any period of time.

EDIT: Why not just use the scooter motor and controller instead of just the controller?

4 LITRES?! WHAAAAT?

however, the motor off the scooter is all show and no go. on full speed, it will go no more than a 16 mph

for the starter, I think I will get a 100cc kinetic 2 stroke, a cvt and slap it all onto it......

I'll go like the forca e-cruizer- 20 inch MTB wheels and tires. that sound good?

EDIT: I have begun construction of the frame. expect progress son

and btw, how's hunger games for a book?

here's how the conversation goes with my father-

"get the frame, prime it, paint it and then we'll think about engineering into it during summer holidays"

"does adding an engine also count as engineering?"

"OF COURSE!"

since I didnt know welding I gave it to a body maker and I'll post pics by today afternoon!

Not a good idea!

if you build the frame NOW and think about an engine/motor later..
you will not know how and where to place it.
If you have an engine and build a frame around it, it'll fit perfectly.

..just sayin'

the engine is incorporated into the rear wheel swing arm and the frame is roomy enough to handle the engine, if required
