New to this whole go kart thing. I've mostly worked on cars and motorcycles.

I took this picture the day before picking it up. The seller stated that it only needed a drive belt, that was false. I checked it over the best an amateur like me could and found that the cvt pulleys needed replaced, the brakes need attention, the drive chain was rusted almost solid, the wood underneath the seat was completely rotted and the spring from carb to governor was broke. The frame was in good shape though, the engine ran, and the price was right so I went back the next day to pick it up. Had to remove the roll cage and steering wheel to fit it into my suv.

So far I've scrubbed the chassis down with soap/water and removed the ruined lower bench seat. Got both pulleys and the chain removed in preparation for a tav2 cvt kit but after some more research found that I should be able to restore the pulleys I have. Also found that the driverside part of the rear axle is bent about 1/4-1/2in after placing a screw driver close to the rim and spinning the wheel. Hopefully I'll be able to bend it back pretty straight.

Here's how clean I've been able to get these rusted pulleys. Top pulley shows the condition they were in and the bottom two after being sanded with 220 grit. Then wire brushed after sanding and polished them with metal polish.

Did some more work yesterday. Rented a puller to separate the driven clutch then sanded the rust off, wire wheeled and polished. Put the spring in the wrong way the first time I put it back together, so had to pull it back apart and redo. Set the spring at #3 for off road.

Pulled the motor off and the plastic cover underneath. Then pulled the carb and cleaned it out.

Check out kartfab.com
He has a video on maintenance those converters

His video is one of the videos I watched before I started messing with the cvt system. Thanks for sharing though.

Scrubbed the rear swing arm down, then my kids wanted to drive in the go kart so I pushed it while my oldest one steered.

Slapped the motor back on along with shock. Notice I painted a few things.

Pic of the kart beside my freedom wheels in my very messy garage.

Does anyone know If I can remove the wire from the switch in this pic and run it to the on switch up front? Currently to start this thing the switch on the motor has to be on as well as the switch mounted to the steering wheel. The steering wheel switch does not shut the motor off currently, I have to shut it off by the motor switch.

Cut the oil drain valley from the swing arm cover so I can change the oil easily.

Here's the oil I drained out. It has the consistency of gas and smells like it pretty bad too. I refilled with some 10w30.

I didn't know he was a member here, I found his vid on youtube. I don't know if I'm on the right track but I'd like to think I'm close.

Awesome! Are you sure you preloaded the spring on the driven when putting it back together?
Yes I preloaded the spring. Once my drive belt arrives in the mail, I should find out if I did it right.

I have one just like that. Do you have a good picture of carb and linkage? I think I`m missing a part or two. I have pics of mine in Discussion under bootlip366 and pictures in photo gallery. Let me know. Thanks.

Mine was missing a part or two also. My carb is leaking now after a second cleaning and the threads are stripped to the bowl, but my kart drives now with the new belt. I'm planning on swapping a predator 212cc on soon.

I'm not really impressed with this predator. It vibrates my kart to the point where it's not fun driving. The Subaru motor was a little faster and didn't vibrate nearly as much, but on the plus side, gas doesn't leak out of the carb on this motor.

Really? I can't make much of a comparison as I never used the Suburu, I just knew that 100 for a carb or 100 for a motor seemed like a no brainer to me lol.

I also never used the Predator stock, I installed a header, filter, removed the governor, and installed a jet kit before I ever pulled the cord.

With those mods, stock gearing, and my 265 lb butt in the seat, I can run 38 mph on flat ground, 28 up the big hill I live at the bottom of.

Yeah the vibration between 1/4-1/2 throttle was pretty bad. The vibration has gone down a bit since I've been breaking it in. This motor definitely has more torque though as I can get some nice drifts going in the gravel parking lot beside my house that the Subaru motor couldn't do very well, but that motor had more top end. The governor was bypassed on the Subaru motor though...

The brakes on this kart have not been working correctly. I've tried adjusting the throw on the brake pads which works at first, but always ends up locking the brakes up when pressed and won't release. I pulled the caliper off yesterday and sanded off all the rust, grime and lubed it up. The brakes work okay now but still won't fully release unless I pull back on the pedal with my foot after hitting them. The rod looks like it stretched out or was too long from the factory because there's tension against the brake caliper lever when the rod is bolted up at the closest setting.

Wow, I've had the same issue, to where I had to actually unbolt the brake rod to get it to move again.

I also put a predator motor on mine but it keeps getting fuel through out the motor. Any advice?
