From what I can gather, it's not worth trying to convert the HF flux-only machine. Either buy it and use it as-is, or chip a few more bucks and get a convertible model.
FWIW- I do all my welding with flux-core. It does require more cleanup, but it's a lot more portable, and I don't have to fool around with cylinder and gas. Many convertible machines are actually capable of doing thicker material in FCAW mode.
