From what I can gather, it's not worth trying to convert the HF flux-only machine. Either buy it and use it as-is, or chip a few more bucks and get a convertible model.

FWIW- I do all my welding with flux-core. It does require more cleanup, but it's a lot more portable, and I don't have to fool around with cylinder and gas. Many convertible machines are actually capable of doing thicker material in FCAW mode.

i added the pic. do you have a link to one that is convertible? are you able to weld thin waled pipe with a flux core machine?

It may take a bit of practise, but yes. No, I don't have a link. Harbour Fright doesn't exist in Canada.

no idea. the school replaced it with a stick welder
