I picked up a HF blue 79cc motor new for $70. The motor is faulty and I am at a crux. I tried to take it back but they have recently enacted a "no receipt no exchange" rule and I lost my receipt :mad2:

So anywho, it wont spark and the coil has clearly hit the magnet on the flywheel many times. After adjusting the gap it still wont spark. I've bypassed the low oil cutoff, bypassed the kill switch. I've reached the end of my knowledge with these.

Should I put any more effort or just write it off?

Also I have a vertical shaft lawnmower with a 3hp tecumseh that I can try swapping parts off of. Dont know of any compatibility issues there though :toetap05:

Buy an old mini-bike or go kart on craigslist for dirt cheap 20-30 bucks, put engine on kart, call it a project and say you let it sit and now can't get it running and don't have time to complete the engine. Its a horrible thing to do but you can honestly say you don't know how to get it running, you can at least get some money back.

Integrity is like a bank account, the less you use the more you have :innocent:

I grounded the plug on various places on the engine like the cooling fins, muffler etc

Do you own an ohmmeter or multimeter? Testing the coil will give you a firm answer as to whether the coil is at fault.

Personally, I'd fix it.

Did you pay cash? I am pretty good and returning things without a reciept. Just freak out a little. Bring you bank statement with you if you payed on debit card.

A little controlled freaking goes a long way. Say they never gave you a reciept as well. The printer was stuck. Or the stupid hole in the bag they gave you. LOL

You can do it.

Other options
YOu could eat it but hit ebay and sell it as parts. Im sure that someone somewhere may need something off that engine especially if they no longer make the engine. Someone with a busted block may could use your block or even the carbs. .
* What ever you cant sell on ebay then sell to the scrap yard. Call around and find out which yard pays the most of aluminum. Take it apart and I assume that like lawnmower engines its more then likely aluminum with a steel sleeve and that ought to get you a little bit of cash.

* hold on to it and like someone else said see if you can find a cheap/free frame and sell it as a project that you picked up the engine and it wont start etc. With the engine on it they can see that they have all the parts and only need to replace the engine. I am thinking of buying a frame but its missing the engine and other parts so I plan to offer the guy less for it.

Good luck.
