I adjusted the fronts out and the rears in so they are just about even. I still have room to adjust more if need be. I took it out around the block and this thing is fast. I had a smile from ear to ear. The steering felt good but it still can't turn hard right or left with out scraping one tire. All in all I'm happy with it. It does what I wanted to do and that was to get my feet wet with go karts and have a good time in the process. I know my son will have a blast with it and plus I will be picking up a new project next week that I couldn't pass up. Its a manco style two seater kart that needs a little work and I can actually fit in and I can drive my son around in it. I will post picks when I get it.

A very important point to consider is, with the lower driver weight of your son (compared to you), the steering will be less responsive & may freak him out a bit; please be aware of this, we don't want any... erm... mishaps :)

Great job on the build! I just purchased the tubing, steering brackets and hangers to begin a Recluse build with my son. He is 8; so, we are going to stretch the frame 4" and widen it 2". Any words of wisdom? What was the part number of the caliper you wound up purchasing? Thanks and enjoy the new "big boy" cart.

I got the caliber of ebay I will find the part number or link. The plans are very easy to follow and they make a mistake on one of the parts on how many you have to cut. I forget which one. The plans take you through to complete the frame and the final assembly is on you. The problem with the design is the steering. So if you are modifying the design to be bigger try to figure out a way to put steering arms to the rear instead of front steering arms.

I was also thinking of building another one and stretching it out about 12" for me. So I can ride with him and when he grows out of it he can use mine.

Thank you for the info.

I have read quite a bit about the steering issue. I thought I would just use the modded pitman to allow the push rods to cross over and angle the spindle brackets back 12 degrees. I am also going to be mindful of keeping as much weight forward as possible.

We are planning to go electric which will require other mods for the motor and batteries. Electric will drive up cost significantly; but, will make the cart much more stealth which will greatly expand the places we can drive in our urban area.

I will start a new thread to document the build. This sight has already been a huge help/inspiration.
