That second link is a 1970's vintage Margay, You could make some money on that kart if it was just fixed uo into ride-able condition.

Dang Redsox, you've posted 3 racekart links here now. I getting the feeling your kinda interested in getting one of these someday (?)

Yea, I would like a small fast kart, but I've no place to keep or ride it. There are other deals also, as there are running yard karts by the handfuls for $200-400, but these racers are bigger, better deals than the dozens of Mancos etc.

Yeah I kinda figured maybe you were getting a little interested in race karts there. If you've never rode one before, you just wouldnt believe how well they turn and handle compared to fun/yard or off-road karts. They can actually develop more G-force going around corners than a Formula-1 race car.

Lots of guys install hooks into they're garage wall studs and actually hang they're race karts on the wall just like a picture to save floor space. Of course you'd have to drain the fuel tank, and crankcase-oil on 4-strokes first.

Before I started racing at tracks I started out riding my karts at big industrial parking lots on sat/sun mornings when they were closed.

Then I posted a wanted ad on C/L and found a bunch of other guys just like myself with race karts in my town, and we all shared our riding spot finds and hooked up to ride/race together.

We just picked up a bunch of those little 6" traffic cones sold at wallmart and marked out tracks in big parking lots behind closed down warehouses and stuff. Racing these things against others is a freaken blast man!
After experiencing the adrenaline rush of competition, I just get bored riding most any kart around by myself.

I wish I could find an old warehouse with those nicely polished concrete floors and take a race kart with some slicks in there. Come to think of it, there is an old, now abandoned, Sam's Club near by, but getting in there, legally that is, is the trick. I would really like to sell my kart and pick up that racer above for $625, but I know homemade yard karts with no suspension don't fetch very much, and I surely don't have that kind of money sitting around. :(

Yeah an abandoned Sams club would be cool to ride in.

We got a little rental-kart track out here that has a polished concrete surface. Its super slick so you kinda have to drift around all the corners. Its really fun and challenging to ride that track as fast as possible without spinning out.

Well that's cool your getting interested in race karts. You should just try to swing that $150 Margay you linked. Margay's used to be known as the very best brand of racekarts, that dude doesn't even realise what he's got there... Those 70's margays are becoming very collectable so its well worth restoring both for an investment and just for something fun to ride around on.

If that was for sale here in Phx I'd be all over it at that price. Heck, he'd probably take $100 for it now...

That Margay could be worth $500 the way it sits, if it hasn't been damaged. I think Its an early to mid 1970's model.

If you could get the serial # off the r/f spindle mount and email Margay, they will confirm what year and model it is: http://www.margay.com/vintage.html

You could research its potential value here: http://www.google.com/search?source...T4GZAZ_enUS369US369&q=for+sale+vintage+Margay

I requested the SN from the kart. I am interested in anything with value. If I pass it off purely as a restore and sell for financial gain, mom may be more likely to allow it to happen. :) It's like 1-1.5 hours away though.

Oh yeah, lots of kart racers are selling off their gear nowadays because of the economy. That second link seems like an alight deal but he didn't mention the karts age so its probably an early-2000 era chassis. That makes a huge difference in its potential value compared to a newer chassis...

These last 2 links you posted would be silly to buy unless you were seriously racing at a Sprintkart track. Even then, you wouldnt want to start out with these TAG-class engines both these karts have. Most tracks that race these types of chassis have a beginners class that would require either a KT100, Comer or 6.5hp-based 4-cycle engine.

At most organized racekart tracks, you have to prove your driving skills in the lower/entry-level classes before they allow you to move up to the TAG-engine or Shifterkart classes.

I have no interest in competitive racing. I just thought that it was amazing how much these karts can go for.
