I agree, just get 2 24' lengths and have a bit left over. I've built a kart with a single 24' length, but I had 6" left over and no room for error. You'll probably mess up a few times since this is your first kart, with 48' you will have plenty of room for error.

You can get a 50 inch at BMI, but even that is going to be pretty tight by the time you put on hubs and tires.
Just checked BMI, they have a 55 inch axle![]()
Now you just need to check and see if you have more than 11 inches of wheel to make clearance for. Have you decided on hubs and wheels yet?
