To tell the truth, I don't know if I want, or need, to go 120 on my kart. I do love getting to 70 or 80 in an 1/8th mile though,

This sentence alone is more awesome than any of the recorded top speeds in this thread. I wouldn't care if the kart topped out @ 30mph, if it could do wheelies out of corners i could die a happy man!

Yep, and that would last for a very short time,
, karters, being the maniacs that we are, could not be satisfied with a 30 mph top speed for long,

Ricks shifter kart is a lot faster than mine, but my Invader kart was timed doing 60mph racing around a 1/5 mile clay oval track. My tachometer readings and final-drive gear ratio confirmed this speed. Although I'm confident I could re-gear my kart to achieve a higher top speed with a longer straightaway.

That's fast man, especially with you butt cheeks about 1 inch off the ground! Just out of curiosity, how much horsepower are you making now?

Yeah, 60 on a kart kinda felt like 140 on a motorcycle. Its a rush!
I'm not really sure, I bought my engines used and haven't had to tear them down yet so I could learn what all's been done to them. They might be as low as 20hp but could be as high as 40hp if they got all the really trick parts/mods in-em.
Both my Stars started out as 357cc. unassembled-kit engines Tecumseh made just for kart racing. But then both of mine were blue printed/further modded by another company called A-1 racing and I'm not sure how radical they built them. All I know for sure is they're scary fast, have held up really well and I only paid less than 1/4 of what they probably cost to build.

My motor was rated 40 hp@9600 rpm stock, but with the expansion chamber, high flow filter, some mild porting and probably some increased compression, I estimate 42~43 hp.
My cycle guy says 60 hp is quite possible with some work, but I don't have a death wish,

mine is geared to get 40, my avatar kart, but never kept WOT too long because it gets CRUISING. and steering is too sketchy w/ no brakes!
