Could somebody take a moment (a favor) and take a couple of photo of their )older versions GY6 engine, set up in a buggy with a External reverse gear box. Looking at my situation and on either side of the box, i would like to see the appropriate positioning for the distance the chain is from the engine case(on the left) and the spindle shaft (or Nut) on the right side. thank you for taking the time... posting here is fine. I realize many of you may have newer Gy6 engines and this does not apply... UPDATE; I have since installed 5-6 shims(washers) to left side to prevent travel to the left. And, I see that the 'nut' was missing on the right side. Keeping a new nut in place there was difficult... Blue lock-tight was not sufficient now attempting RED.

Anyone?

What’s the issue with yours? Show us yours first so one of us can eyeball the geometry and advise.

Make sure both sprockets are perfectly straight (use a straight edge), even if you need small spacing adjustments. That should fix wear and any skipping issues.

Thank you for responding... I have already placed washers to minimize any travel towards the left... I'd like to believe that if the chain is appropriately tight, it will travel very little. I just installed a new engine... all going well except to start! The CDI is buzzing and nothing beyond that, so now troubleshooting it.

There looks to be no clearance where the chain is close to the nut next to it plus it appears too tight. See if this video is at all helpful.

The chain was set to spec of 1/4 - 1/2 in... you saying too tight?

It didn't appear to have any slack in it, maybe it was just the angle of the picture. Generally chains need some flex or droop to allow for runout from the sprockets or they'll bind up.
