If you video tape it, you can replay it in slow mo while driving over a semi bumpy section to see how the suspenion is working and or if it needs more rebound or compression.

Built a camera boom to capture the suspension in action, but the boom amplified the vibration of the kart to where my Harddrive based Camera will not record. I guess I will have to live with fly by shots or get someone to spot in another kart.

Recent updates on the twin engine kart:

I have finished the build. I am running both engines at this time to break in the clutches and the engines. Based on my minimal weight design, the thing is @ss heavy, causing the front wheels to push when trying to turn a tight radius. I also don't quite have the carefree feel when taking it off road. It is simply too much of a hammer.

As for the positives, it is scary fast. It is geared (Both engines are 4:1) to do around 60MPH, and so far, I have hit 55MPH in the neighborhood, but let off due to fear rather than power. It might go faster. It also has slight rear axle hop during acceleration as it almost breaks traction when the centrifigal clutchs really lock down. A twin CVT might be insanity, but this thing is all about extreme.

I have modified the engines including governor, exhaust, intake, and jet. I think I have about 17HP on this 120 pound kart.

Pictures to come.....

Good job Russ, looks good. I had the same problem of pushing with a kart I built a while back. Meatier tires do help like something with some knobbies on it.

A buddy and I are going to take the Karts out for some proper off roading this weekend. Perfect opportunity for some camera footage. Should have some video by next week, but I wish I could post in something with better resolution than YouTube.

I typically take at least 3 vehicles out, since at least one breaks each time, even with some spare parts. A leason I learned from Combat Robotics, is that breakage is weakness leaving the design.

I have tried to simulate jumps by sanding directly ontop of just the front or rear suspension, and have done the trampoline imitation as well.

I am in east Texas, not a whole lot to jump from. I will be on the look out this weekend though.

Ever take it off any sweet jumps?

I once by accident launched my kart off a 8" high rock at my cottage. I saw a small hill so I held the pedel right to the floor all the way up the hill at aboout 60, Had all 4 tires off the ground by about 7"+ and then landed WONDERFULLY! Most go karts I see jumping all nose dive. It scared the living crap out of me!
