Engine wont fully turn

The other day i was trying to hook up a throttle cable for a minibike i recently bought, and in the process of doing so i dropped a screw onto the flywheel and the screw stuck to it. i removed the outer case, and got the screw out, but now it seems that the engine wont go through a full rotation. i can turn the flywheel about 1 1/2 times before it gets stuck, and i have to turn it alot harder for it to get all the way through the cycle. i took out the spark plug, and it works fine, but when i put it back on it has the problem again. IF it helps i have the 6.5hp Harbor Freight Greyhound Engine

any ideas what this may be?

It sounds like the natural compression stroke. It should get harder to turn when it's compressing the fuel and air.

Compression, engine needs it to run proper.

i can turn the flywheel about 1 1/2 times before it gets stuck, and i have to turn it alot harder for it to get all the way through the cycle


i took out the spark plug, and it works fine, but when i put it back on it has the problem again.

If the engine turns over fine with the spark plug removed, your probably just feeling the compression stroke with the spark plug installed, and that's completely normal.

Do you still have the recoil cover removed and are just turning the flywheel by hand now?
If so, I'd re-install the recoil cover and try to start it. Then let us know if it starts/runs and all seems fine now or not.

It depends if it is to hard to pull start when you put the cover back on. If it is I had a problem where nothing could start the engine it was so hard it would snatch me when I pulled it it ended up being the compression release on the cam, I pulled the arm up a little and been great since.

yeah its just the compression i guess. but even with the recoil its still kinda hard

i changed the oil out and turn it a few times, seems ok now.

im not ery good with engines. didnt want to try to start it like that, and it breaking

Check valve lash, set to around .002 intake, .003 exhaust.
