I put this engine on my kart during summer but I didnt bother working on it because the kart was a long way from being done. So now the kart is drivable the engine runs sometimes pretty good and I can ride it around for a few minutes. Then sometimes it runs for a second and turns off and it does this a lot. Could it be a vacuum leak? I dont have a air filter on it either. Someone please help I'm getting really frustrated!:furious2:

Put an air filter on it, and clean/rebuild the carb, pay special attention to assembling the diaphragm pump assembly correctly. Will it run properly with a FULL tank of gas?

It SEEMS to run better when I put gas in it, then it gets to a certain level and doesn't run as well. Ill try to find the air filter and see how that goes.

Check the fuel pick-up tubes in the gas tank, if one is broken or cracked it won't get fuel if it is below a certain level.

If the tube and screens are good its probably the pump, they take about 10 seconds to rebuild. If you pull the carb off the tank it is very wise to buy 2 new tank gaskets(lightly coat in RTV and stack em) and the carb>engine gasket. A rebuild kit should have everything except the 2nd tank gasket.

Ok I took the carb off and cleaned it and the screen was really really clogged. I cleaned the carb out and made a new gasket for the tank/carb because the one was pretty much gone. And now it does the same thing! Im about ready to buy a clone

...its called lazyness and thats why this countrys going down the tube...
Apparently.

I'm just the opposite. When I'm stumped I just keep digging until I discover the problem.
Giving up doesn't fix anything nor is anything learned.
Patience and understanding as to why things work the way they do is key....
The fact that engine runs well with a full tank and crummy on a partial tank is a
BIG HINT!!!

well I want a clone anyway cus I want one to build up with better stuff. Dont get me wrong I like fixing stuff and not giving up on it but this engine isn't worth it to me. I enjoy building things, I just built my first project truck and Im going to school to be a tech. I'm gonna work on it a little again tomorrow and I'll see how that goes.

I was just talking to a friend who had taken a small engines class and he said it could be a ground too, I messed with the kill switch and it started for a little and then messed with it again and it wouldnt start, so tomorrow Im gonna wire in a switch for it and see how it goes
