been working on it for i dont know how long, first i just replaced the crank but now i replaced the carb because i thought that could be the problem, i have my crankshaft and camshaft alligned, i got spark and oil and gas, and i have my valves adjusted correctly and i put an aluminum flywheel in i have the key in it and the gap between the ignition coil is right and i got compression any ideas? this is what it sounds like trying to start it, it sounds like it wants to but dosent

had to share it as a link because i cant figure how else to lol

I watched the video, didn’t hear a pop or wheeze but it “sounds” healthy with the doop doop out of the header, like it’s pumping air as it should...

Pull it several times, pull the spark plug and see if it’s wet and if there’s the delightful smell of gasoline coming from the spark plug hole? Will it run from the carb with ether/starting fluid sprayed in there? That’s just for a confirmation fire.

What gets me, is many of these newer engines will not start without the choke on, even when warm/hot. Your carb has an enrichener circuit instead of a butterfly plate but it makes me want to cup my hand over the carb bore and restrict some airflow while pulling.

the spark plug isnt wet nor does the spark plug hole smell like gas and id have to get starting fluid to test that but if that dosent start it what might it be? if you know lol

If it fires with ether through the carburetor/intake, then you have a fuel/fuel delivery/air-fuel-mixture issue. You may have too much air, not enough fuel or even an air leak in that area (check your gaskets and nuts and bolts).

Propane eh? I have never considered propane.

ill check the gaskets and everything but if its not that how would i get it to actually get fuel? its a brand new carburator so nothings clogged the bowl gets gas i think it might be the jet because i heard the stock jets on them suck but i got new ones they still havent came yet tho lol but if its not the jets too what else could it be

It turns into rocket science (unintelligible) when you have bad luck with a carburetor. Totally bamboozles the brain and you’re not the only one who’s had this issue with a new aftermarket carb.

What kind of carburetor is it, brand and model? If I missed it in the other thread, my apologies

Post some photos of the engine and carburetor and buy some starting fluid or carb clean. No one ever recommends propane because it’s not a liquid. I don’t know, the “propane” idea really threw me for a loop. Spray or dribble some flammable liquid in the carb throat (with the air cleaner off) and it should fire or pop off for a few cycles if you have compression and proper timing.

Fuel
Compression
Spark
All at the right time

its a cheap ahh carb from amazon its fvrito i saw video saying not to use that plastic spacer gasket thing and i first put it on and nowni took it off i dont think its an air leak i think it might be the stock jets being too small in them?

but would replacing the small *** jets in them do anything for it?

Sure, maybe. Maybe it is set up too lean from the factory? Does it have an idle adjustment screw and an idle-air-mixture screw? If it has an air-mixture screw, the baseline for aeons of years has always been something like 1.5 to 2.5 turns out (counter-clockwisse) from lightly seated. Seated means screwed in all the way but not screwed tight.

The idle screw must also be adjusted for it to run. The throttle cannot be totally closed at idle or at rest, it must “have a crack” or a small gap. Adjusting a new carburetor is something that can be really painstaking to do; you tweak it with a screwdriver and try to start it, tweak it and try to start it. Tweak it again until it runs and settles into an idle. Then adjust it some more! 😧

Put your palm over the air filter end of the carb, sealinig it tight. Pull the rope. Pull it again. Did you feel strong suction on your hand? Did you get gas on your hand? Both answers should be yes. Help us help you.
