Engine Shaft help please!!!???

I just obtained a Tecumseh 3.5 hp Side shaft engine for free. It runs great and everything is fine and dandy except for one thing...the shaft. the motor came off of a pressure washer and the shaft is not long at all-mabey 1/2-3/4 of and inch LONG, not in bore size. It has no keyway and it is six sided like a bolt head or something.Here are some pics please give me your advice... can i mount a centrifugal clutch? or will i have to replace or add on to the shaft? here are the model #'s in case:

Change out crankshaft or get an engine with a usable crankshaft.
No other options.

You will need a torque wrench (for reassembly) and the manual for your model engine.
Remove flywheel.
Next, remove side cover which will expose internals.
You should be able to handle it from there.
If you're not mechanically savvy, don't attempt it.

Ah man that shaft sucks. Its just like a big old powered Allen wrench...

If you dont really wanna replace the crank... I was kinda wondering if the pressure washers, water pump input shaft (and possibly its mounting/bearing supports) could be somehow modded/used to mount a clutch at some point further outboard?

Got any pics of the water pump input-shaft section?

could i weld a shaft with a key hole to the one thats on there now?

Welding crankshaft will destroy temper rendering it about as usable as over cooked spaghetti.

It's not. Most generators, pressure washers, snowblowers/throwers have specialized drive trains to meet a specific need. Look for engines with straight keyed shafts.

if im not comfortable with changing the shaft by myself, about how much would it cost for me to take it to a small engine specialist to get it done, including cost of parts?

Much more than the engine is worth.
New crankshaft alone is $75 to $100.
Add labor.

dang that sucks really bad...im just gonna try to find another engine. Can anybody hook me up for a decent one for under $100 in N.Carolina?
