hey i am taking a 1994 honda 300ex fourwheeler engine and using it for my mini buggy engine, right now it almost never turns over and i am pretty sure its because it thinks that its in reverse because the reverse light is always on and yet its not in reverse. i dont know if you guys know anything about this engine but i dont know where else to go so. i did check the reverse wires for currency and there good so could it be the switch in the engine? and how do i fix it. thanks

Either the gearbox is broken, or the switch is stuck on. You may have to disassemble it to find out.

P.S you check for current, not currency lol!

Good luck, 300cc bike engine w. reverse. You're very lucky to have such a good motor.

yea

im like 100% sure the gear box isnt broken and hope fully the switch is just stuck on like you said. and if it is, is there a way that i can bypass it. yea my bad lol current. but yea it is a dam good engine all i have ever had to do for fixes was change the timing chain and that was like 5 years ago, other then that just normal maintenance and i have had the fourwheeler for almost 10 years but i have an 06 honda foreman 500 now so thats why the 300 is getting turned into a buggy/ kart. thanks for posting.

The switch is likely a NO or normally open switch. When you put the gear in reverse, the switch is closed, completing the circuit to the light and your engine CPU. If you simply cut the wire (don't worry, you can always reconnect it back together), then you should see the light go off, and the CPU will think it is an open circuit. Note, you need to cut one of the two wires from the switch, which is likely a harness coming out of the transmission.

so therefore i wont have to open it up and look at it? i wouldnt even have to cut the wire cuz they both just plug into it so i have pulled both of them off at once and that didnt work but u said to just pull one off and see what happens. ill prolly try that tomorrow and ill get back to you and then we can go from there, i really hope this works and it sounds like it will but i have a deadline for this thing to be built and the engine is obviously a huge slow down, i havent even started on the chassis or anything, but the entire chassis is designed i just have to figure out what i am goin to do about, steering, brakes, clutch, and the throttle, but mainly how im goin to place it all which wont be hard but the steering is gonna hurt too so idk. i should be able to make the deadline in march and if i do ill have to post some pics for u guys. thanks for all the help
