Hey! I have a Briggs and Stratton CR950 6.5HP engine. I know that Gopowersports header pipes and K&N Filter adapters should fit my engine, but I have a few questions... First of all, since this engine is over $200 I don't feel comfortable removing the governor. I could easily do it, but I would only remove the governor on something more disposable like a predator engine. If I put on the gopowersports header and K&N Filter would I get any extra performance with the governor still in? I am willing to buy the star 1 upgrade kit from them if it would give me any speed or acceleration benefit, but do any of you know if it would make a difference if I didn't remove the governor? Also, This kart has a one wheel wonder 11" rear drive tire with a 60 tooth sprocket and a 12 tooth clutch. It hits 30mph at top speed, and would you recommend changing the gearing? Thanks.

Why are you asking about gearing? Does it feel like the kart needs to be regeared? Are you struggling to take off with no torque?

I am not having any problems, I was just wondering if there was a better option for the kart.

In response to your questions as you stated them, YES, the header and filter will provide a noticeable increase in power and it will no longer sound like a lawn mower!
I wouldn't recommend changing your gearing , 11" tires with a 12/60 combo is pretty solid. It won't smoke any tires or go 88 MPH, but it's solid.

Better option to what?

Better acceleration?

Better top speed?

What do you want out of your kart?

I am not an expert, I was just making sure this was a safe gearing ratio.

So I have that same engine. How are you installing the throttle cable? My engine came off a pressure washer and I can’t figure out how to convert the throttle linkage to work with the pedal
