Should still work. The cranks interchange, I have done plenty of vertical cranks in horizontal blocks simply because there is a bigger supply of vertical cranks in the 'free market', otherwise known as the trash.
I have even put the horizontal engines side cover on a vertical engine block- you lose the mounting feet, but for the particular application it did not matter.
The only real difference between the two internally is the oiling system, vertical shaft engines have a gear like device that splashes the oil, horizontal have a finger mounted on the con rod to do the same thing.
