I am using a 3hp motor and I cant seem to find an electric start for it. Or any motors that size with electric start, for that matter. Anyone know of a source?

Thanks.

A Honda type???
For the most part.. There is none..
Mainly on higher hp engines..not on the lesser.

The Gx160 I think is the smallest with electric start, outside of small single stage snowblowers.

That still doesn't make sense.....

OP - Is it a Briggs 3 HP per chance??

If you can post up the serial codes I can probably get you some part numbers for OEM electric start. Just note: It might be VERY pricey.

gear wheel =/= caster wheel..

anyways.

there are hundredth of 3horse engines with an optional e-start..

what there isn't a way to turn just ANY engine into an e-start version of itself.

So if you're using a tiny 33cc weedwhacker.. no chances for e-start are slim
same gos for 50cc chainsaw engines and alike

3horse industrials (like briggs and stratton tecumseh, honda etc)
are very likely to have some version with e-start however
and thus some other (same family engines w/o e-start) might be retrofittable with e-start.

So, as JT said.. please post engine make and model
(I'll expand to all; not just Briggs engines here though)
So we get an idea.

PS predators is a "no" I'm afraid horror fraud opted to not offer rato's with e-start below a certain size.

I was looking at the harbor freight 3 hp motor hoping that there was an electric start. I know another brand has a 4hp with electric start... but it is expensive... over 300.00, as a matter of fact. Anyways... thanks for the info. I dont mind using the pull start.

Surplus center has several small engine options with electric start right now I believe.

Nothing you're going to bolt on to a 79cc predator I'm afraid.

hf refuses to show me the image on the link (region locked??)
but I assume we both think of the very same thing being a caster wheel
something like this:
blacks-everbilt-casters-49477-64_1000.jpg orRAL7035_R.jpg
maybe you misunderstood the
gear wheel =/= caster wheel
=/= (crossed out equal sign) means not equal of course ;)

What Trevor was talking about (at least how I understood it)
was a powered friction wheel on the "non gear ring equipped" flywheel
to start the engine up.
such as this (well a smaller version of course...
VC-Rotafrix-Friction-Wheels.jpg
(only real difference is it has no internal bearings but is rotationally locked to an axle really,
think front kart wheel vs rear wheel ;))

I'm not sure that's a reliable solution though,
the slip (rubber on steel) might not provide enough of acceleration (rather jerk) to engage the compression release on the cam..
and thus it won't have the momentum (speed) to engage the compression release;
and since there's no positive force fitting connection (no gear teeth)
the slip might just increase and the engine still won't turn over.

Anyways..

yes if the predator series is the one you want to go for, then no e-start will be at your disposal I'm afraid.

if you look at home depot however (I'm definietely region locked there)
they should have a 3hp e-start competitor for all I know.

Use to be a after market sales (gimmick?) kit one could buy to transform the recoil to electric start using a drill. A sprague clutch on a bracket bolted to the flywheel. If you could find one compatible or make one, and have a drill, whala.
