Hello everyone! I'm planning on putting together an electric conversion for a go kart, and I'm in dire need of some advice.

This project is probably gonna be built on a basic kart chassis (depending on what u can find used), and I'm planning on using it on tarmac, gravel and probably some dirt trails, but no serious off-roading. It would be a decently powerful little cart, probably around 6-7kW or so.

I just need help in regards to the sizing and proper selection of my major components. Also, I'd like to keep total costs for these components below 1000-1200$ if possible.

For my motor, I was looking into probably a Motenergy ME0909 Brush-type DC motor. http://www.motenergy.com/me0909.html

For my controller, I was wondering about anyone's experience with Kelly Controllers, since they seem like quite the deal.

Lastly, for batteries I honestly have no clue. I was considering maybe using a bunch of LiPo batteries like these:

But, I would need a ton of them to get it to last more than 15mins, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

For the batteries you could try the racing car type sealed batteries that give a good high current output and should be easily charged.
That motor looks the dogs though.

skip rc batpacks if possible... a good set of geltype car batteries will do the trick for a fraction of the costs.
(that's why most ev motors come in multiples of 12V ;))

that motor is great, and so are kellycontrollers..
but you need a bigger one:

the motor could draw up to 300 Amps, and that needs to be accounted for.

PS search DIYGK for ElDingo thats a fairly similar setup than what you have in mind
