Ebay pod filters, K&N knockoff?

Im looking for a couple pods for my shifter kart but i dont want to spend $80+ on a pair of K&N or uni filters. Would these cheepo knockoff ones do anything? or are they basically just a step up from no filter? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/52mm...torcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_3896wt_951

I'd be a little leary, they say nothing about the filter media at all. You can find used filters cheap in the classified section on Bob's 4 cycle karting. I picked up a HUGE 5x10 K&N for my RM250 for $10 shipped.

i bought one just like that. problem was that the rubber flange was too big for the filter, so i just sent a few screws through it

Contrary to popular belief, UNI filters are much better that K&N's for this type thing.

I would never use a single stage paper filter like that for anything that sees even traces of dirt. Same style as my dragster, And they don't filter well at all. Get a good set of 2 stage UNI's.

If you can, try to get the UNI that uses the Green foam as the inside layer. Its more dense than the black so it filters worlds better than the red and black UNI..... It did for me anyway.

yeah go with 2 uni's ... check on ebay you can find good deals sometime... might be able to find 2 for about 30-40 bucks

Yes, they are. Those any knockoff unless you get them from a reputable source.

I've had brand new one's come with HOLES. Literally. Shine it up to the light, a hugeass piece of... filter material missing from between the mesh. It's a POS.

Well i got a post up on bobs 4 cycle, and if worst comes to worst i found 2 stage uni pods for $18 each+ shipping on ebay.

I looked earlier today on my phone also and couldn't find them. I I've seen them around quite a few times. I bought it as a sheet, http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=301573, and sewed up a pre-filter sort of thing to use over one of the cheapo k&n knockoffs. When using the red and black UNI I had full grains of sand make it through. With this combo there's no sign of anything at all making it through, and I used it during the dustiest time of the year.

Hey good idea man. I dont think the red/black, 2-stage UNI's are any better than a K&N. The dirt residue in my carbs bore proved to me they both need some type of pre-filter to trully work well in super dusty conditions. Heck we used to wrap a couple layers of ladies nylons over our dirt bike filters back in the 70's.

the dustiest place i'll be riding is dirt/gravel roads. But it will be mostly used on mud, grass, and blacktop.
