Drove it in the back yard which is pretty steep and wooded, feels like a torque monster , I’m afraid it will be slow.. all was well until the axle chain shot off it’s master link somehow.. more parts yay

My kart is a "torque monster" but, it still does 30+mph...

That may be a result of perfect gearing, engine mods or a combination of the two...

That's why I'm, not a fan of master links; if a chain is gonna break, it will; why give it a reason?

Having said that, are you absolutely positive it was installed correctly?

Help! The chain started slipping on the sprocket, and yes it was very taut. I lost about 3 master links , and finally the drive chain snapped one of it’slinks open. The link came apart in like a Y shape. It is a type #41 should that happen ?? Should I go back to the huge type 50?

#41 or just #4X?

#41 is the smallest & weakest of all the #4X series chains; #40 is around 50% stronger, not to mention 1/8" wider; if you have #41 chain on a #40 or #428 sprocket, the chain will be grabbing on the sprocket, causing the breakages...

Sprocket and chain are supposed to both be #41 , i assumed it was stronger than the 40. I’m upgrading to the #50 sprocket and 530 chain. Yay more parts ..

The sprockets may be fine. Maybe try a 420 chain. That's the setup I'm going with.

41 chains are usually rated at 2,000lbs. 420 chains are almost double that at 3,700lbs. I got a heavy duty 420 that is supposed to be 4,000lbs.

It depends on your budget I suppose.

This may be a dumb question. How do you cut a chain to fit and install it without a master link?

41 chains are usually rated at 2,000lbs. 420 chains are almost double that at 3,700lbs. I got a heavy duty 420 that is supposed to be 4,000lbs.

#420 chain works fine on #41 sprockets.

I've only used that type of tool for breaking the chain, then I've always used a master link. My tool is more basic than that one.

How much you pay? I think I normally order 10' with a few master links for ~$20 shipped.
It is at least two chains worth.

Bob- From what I have gathered you can reuse the previous pin. With that being said, depends on the chain itself, some have a peen on the rivets from the factory, some don't. The tool however can re-peen over an edge via the one punch tool it has.

Me personally... I use the master link to join... I have enough issues when I have to do a break down...

Nothing is reused; you install a special master link with pins that can be staked.

O-ring chain is pretty much standard equipment for offroad non-MX motorcycles. It lasts longer in very dirty conditions, but has a lot more drag and can't really be cleaned.
