What size jackshaft? If it’s 5/8” you can get a 9t and 8t type c sprocket. Fairly common. If it’s 3/4” you might be out of luck.

Thanks guys , ordered 40 series genuine comet without backing plate and a 54 tooth (9 inch) #41 rear that should fit factory hub with slight mods and 10 tooth front #41 3/4” to fit jackshaft . Hope that helps , also it’s 22 inch tires.

3/4"

I will start on a dual jackshaft set up when the parts get here, the primary one with the driven pulley will have a 10 tooth and the secondary shaft will have either a 15 or 20 tooth input with 10 output . Then I can fine tune it with the axle sprocket . I will post pics as I build . I’m excited about fabbing it up! And happy turkey day all!

Unless you are working with split sprockets. It is usually much easier to fix the axle sprocket and fine tune with the Jackshaft sprocket. At least if by tune, you mean make changes. If by fine tune, you just mean achieve your desired ratio, then go ahead. JS sprockets are cheaper than rear sprockets. And you don't have to pull the axle to swap them.

Yea I have to drop the brake disc to clear the custom caliper before I can even drop the axle. Kind of a pain..

New Maxxis meat

Update : new meat ! Dropped down a size to 20 inch from 22. Might be wishing I had that extra inch of ground clearance.. nice set of maxxis razrs I believe are 6 ply. Still waiting on jackshafts to arrive :(

Noob question but how did you orient the picture portrait style , mine keeps posting then landscape 🤔

I saved your pic in Paint then rotated it.
But when I take pics with my phone I hold the phone sideways with the button on the right. That seems to do the trick most of the time.

Pretty funny how similar our projects are. Looks like yours will be up and running before mine. I got an out of state wedding coming up that's going to slow me down too. I look forward to seeing how you frame in/position everything.

Do you know of any recommended steel split sprockets? I'd love having one for my rear axle to avoid that headache. Most I've found are light weight looking. Seems like sprocket manufacturers don't like to label a capacity or load for any sprockets.

All of the split sprockets I've found are aluminum I think.
Will aluminum fail much faster than steel? I dunno?

That's the question. I would love to see a video about putting sprockets through a torture test to see how much difference there is between sizes (35,40,41,420...) and material (aluminum vs steel)

To tensioner, or not to tensioner ..

Finally received the final jackshaft, trying to decide on a tensioner or what. Do the #41’s stretch much?

I'm definitely not an expert. But from what I've seen, most setups that use a tensioner or roller have longer horizontal distance between sprockets or the sprockets are mounted completely vertical. I would guess you don't 'need' anything.

A chain well supported is a good thing, but adding in things does mean there's more that could go bag/wrong and cause more problems than they solve.

Unless you paid for some super expensive chains, I'd say go without and see how it goes. But that doesn't mean scrap the idea. Leave some working room to make it easier to add in a tensioner or roller in the future, if it ends up being needed.

I've also thought about getting some sprocket guards. You can mount them close enough to the sprocket so they can work like a channel to keep a stretched out chain from coming off. Plus your sprocket is better guarded. They seem like they'd be easy to make if you can't find a design you want.

I'd love to hear some opinions too, because sometime next year I'll be making this same decision.
