I was reading the 5hp guide, and got to thinking, stock motors are always the most reliable, but what about after you start modding one? Am I going to have to tear it down once a month to replace rings?

A couple friends have karts with 6-7 hp motors, but I like being different and thought about a flatty.

Under 6000 rpm with a fairly mild cam (too aggressive will ruin a tiller block) and good racing oil they will go for quite some time.

"It's a bit lean" It's so beast it shoots smoke like 12 feet" It's not oil or anything" So what is it that's burning huh? You said it was a beast just like my motor.
Just kidding it will be a nice motor when you actually tune it. This is my custom made flathead. Built by me and a freind. For some reason I think my throttle is a **bit** more snappier than your's LOL. I guess that's enough compare Apple's to Orange's for one day Huh?

We will have to race tyler. Stock my 490 will run 13's @ 94 MPH in the 1/4th mile. A re-gear will totally change that. Not to mention all the engine mods that can be done. I think it would be cool to do a little racing.

Yeah, That would be awsome. By 490 what machine do you mean? I have alot of mechanical advantage over manuel clutching and gear box's. I think I'd pwn you in the 60 foot and the 330. 1/8 mile might be getting close. My 60 foots are about 1.2 seconds. When the motor was new my 60 foot times where CRAZY NUTS low, Then it calmed down where we want it. Any lower and it will just "Blow the tires off".

Lol I know man, At least I got the billet bead lock's. I think M/T (Mickey Thompson) tires are good. Arguably the best tire in the world for drag racing. There $125 per tire. I think a billet tire would be expensive.:roflol:

I mean the Yamaha IT490 dirtbike. Yeah i think you'd waste me in the 60 foot, i honestly CANNOT keep my front end down. I can lean over the handle bars and if i don't short shift it, the thing will wheelie so high it'll go over backwards. I think in an all out WOT run it would be close though. That would be fun.

All you need is the youtube link, not the whole "embed" code.

Now you're just giving them ammo to hit you with! :roflol:

Actually, I have an "on-topic" question. What's the numbers on a 5HP briggs? I'd like to find me one at the flea market to mess with. I saw a briggs last weekend but we showed up too late and people were packing up so I didn't get to take a good look at it. It didn't have the sticker though so I couldn't tell right off the bat what it was.

Should be 13xxx

60000 series are the 2HP

80000 series are the 3HP

10 series IIRC are the 4HPs.
