Yo. I just started takin driva's ed. (late I Know) The classroom part is boring and the driving part hurts my ears. Just my luck I got the lady with the loudest voice. I did better than the kid I was with, but the lady *****es about going 26 on a 25mph road. Anyways, any one have any memorable driver's ed classes out here?

We had to take drivers ed after school. How is it done for you guys and how old did do you have to be? For me it was like 2 hours a day for 12 days or something like that. Thank god I got that over with. Ill be getting my license on Wednesday. In NC its 14 1/2 for drivers ed, 15 for your permit, and 16 for your license. In VA drivers ed is in school and strangely enough, you get your permit before you take drivers ed. Permit at 15 & 8 months and license at 16 and 4 months.

We have block scheduling. So my classes are 80 mins each. They take a month out of my gym classes and give us drivers ed.

Basically how it worked here is you can take a driver's ed course at 14.5 years old, it costs $365 (!) and classes are like 6 hours every Saturday for a couple months. At the end of the course, if you're 15, then you can take the written permit test. Then you complete 6 hours of behind the wheel training with the driving school. After that, you have to have the permit for one year, and complete a driving log of 40 day hours and 10 night hours with a parent in the car. At this point, you can go to the DMV, and do a driving test with them, and if you pass, then you get your license.

:surrender:

AND THEN you can't have anyone besides family in the car with you for 6 months, then only one or two passengers for 6 months after that. There is also (supposed to be) a curfew for those driving who are under 18, never seen that one enforced though.

We've got that graduated license stuff here too. First 6 months of license you can only drive from 6am-9pm except to/from work or school and can only have 1 other person under 21 in the car (excluding immediate family members). Its full of stupid holes, but when they started that stuff here, teen accidents dropped by something like 60%.

26 is a 25 is technically illegal. My gf failed her first try plugging her Plymouth Breeze up a hill, all 4 cylinders weakly churning, doing 27 in a 25. They will stick you for it.

Think your hard done by, wait till ya hear australia's licencing system!

ill save the explanation for an aus member :D

Over here drivers ed is called a defensive driving course

You have 3 stages before you get your full licence

learners - supervised driving with someone who has held there licence for 2 and a hlaf years, for 6 months then you can be tested behind the wheel for a -

Restricted licence - you can only drive alone or with spouse passengers, curfew 6am-10pm, this lasts for 18 months, after your first 6 months you can do a defensive driving course (round about the $200 mark) which takes off 6 months on your restricted, then you can sit your

Full licence, practical test after your full licence test has passed you are a free driver with no limitations bar supervising a learner driver.

Whats the u.s.a system?

In TX... 15 to get permit, VOE from school, Driver's Ed either online or driving school. Online ftw, am taking it later on :)

Can't drive without a 21 year or older adult with a license in the passenger seat, can't drive on the highways, can't drive after 12PM and before 5AM.

My dad worked for the Drivers License department. Instead of taking Drivers Ed in high school (at 15 and 7 months old with my drivers permit) he had me drive our old 59 Chrysler (towing a 16' travel trailer) all the way from Arizona to the state of Mane and back during our summer vacation. After this he was able to certified me as passing drivers Ed so we'd get a discount on my auto insurance policy.

Pennsylvania mandates 16yo to get your permit. Then you must wait 6 months and have 50 hours of supervised driving with a licensed driver over 21. Then for the test, you must parallel park and take a road test. Technically, you can drive solo at 16 yo 6 months. The curfew of 6am-11pm stands until 18yo unless you get a legal working permission to drive in the banned hours. I'm pretty sure it's acquired through district court.

The West Australian system is a little bit worse :D.

When you turn 16 you can do a theory test to get your "Ls" you have to get 25 out of 30 to pass. You also have to pass an eye test and other stuff too. Then you can drive as long as you've got someone who has held their full drivers licence for a few years, you're not allowed to drive on freeways and at night, you're also not allowed to go more than 100kph.

Once you've had your "Ls" for 6 months you can try and get your log books. To do this you have to pass a driving and theoretical test. Once you have those you have to do at least 6 months and 25hours of driving(although, their bringing in a law that says you have to do 125 hours! :O ), the rules are the same as they are for your Ls, you just have to write down all the driving you do. Once you've done that you can try and get your red Ps. This is a driving and theory test. Once you get those you can drive by yourself but you can't have more than one passenger. In the eastern states you're not allowed to drive any vehicle that has a V8 or forced induction (eg turbo, supercharger), that has a power to weight ratio of more than 125KW per ton and an engine capacity or more than 3.5litres per ton. You're not allowed to drive between 12am and 5am unless it's work related and if you have any alcohol in your system you loose your licence.

After 6 months on your red Ps you can get your green Ps which have a bit less stringent rules. Once you've had your green Ps for 18 months you can then get your full licence. F!cked up system hay?

Thanks

Hayden

Lol. Yea, I fear the parallell parking. I don't even think the truck I'll be driving will even turn far enough to paralel park. At least I'm not in West Australia, no V-8? I'd be screwed. They do our training sesions in pairs. Driving with other kids (usually girls) who can't drive a lick is the most annoying part of mine.

Pennsylvania has a written (computer) test for your permit. You must get 15 of 18 to pass. Then it's the above. Parallel parking is never used. My gf's brother learned the morning of his test on their street. It's a 2 lane road with cars half parked on the side walk on a slope like this ---> /.
