Do band brakes suck?

well? do they? I would think they would make a lot of noise and rub a lot even when they arent engaged..

anyone have experience with them?

My cart had a 4" drum on the live axle with 21" knobbies, would lock up, if you slammed the throttle/brake in the right combination it would turn itself around in anything loose.

Mine is on my clutch. try it at ur own risk thow. so far no problems

stoping wise works awsome. but its actually a flywheel brake strap from an old B&S
so its not completely wrapped around the clutch only half way. still locks up

you just gotta make sure it's on there good. if it slips off, it can get caught up in your chain and mess all kinds of stuff up. it's a pain in the rear when that happens. other than that, I like em just fine.

Thats what I have on my sons go kart. It seems to work pretty good but with the small tires and my big butt on it it slides alot on grass, but it definately locks up.

Everybody thinks that but they dont. My band brake never got past warm, ever. And a good clutch used in a proper setup wont get past warm.
