front shocks finished, rack n pinion mounted, steering wheel mounting bar welded, just need to attach the steering wheel to the rack n pinion.

picked up a nice beat up trailer for $100. it's not a looker, but it'll get the buggies and snowmobiles around!

did you extend the rack of the rack and pinion as you did the U joint?

Are you using #40 chain or #50? Just asking because I would be worrying about #40 chain snapping with such a large buggy/ engine combo.

extended the tie rods, replaced the cheap/weak ball joint ends with 1/2" bore heims. the rack itself (from inner ball joint to inner ball joint) is as wide as the distance between the left and right a-arm mounts, so that everything pivots together, to minimize bump steer.

#50 for sure. next buggy is getting double #50 sprockets and chains! i might make that standard practice. it costs a little extra, but it's worth it for the peace of mind.

I wouldn't go with any thing more than a single #50, take a look at sport bikes, they use 520 and may have over 200hp. Also, a double chain system will always put more stress on one chain than the other.

still, it's be nice to have a backup already in place in case a chain does fail. that means less down time, and more riding time! crotch rockets don't get air-born and come slamming down 1000+ lbs with the wheels having sped up to 50 mph while in the air, while the buggy is only moving 30 mph when it hits the ground. those kinds of forces will really put the drivetrain to the test!

i'll be sure to make the chains as in-sync with each other as possible.

#520 chain is likely to be stronger than #50. 50 chain is an industrial chain, while 520 is made specifically for motor sports applications. What bikes run 520 with 200hp? I thought anything with that power was running at least 530, if not 630. When you say double chain are you referring to two separate chains, or a single double wide chain? Why is one chain put under more stress than the other on double chain setups? (just curious here).

With mini buggies the most common cause leading to chain failure is not a lack of strength, but it's lack of ability to dissipate heat. A lot of buggies run short chains and small sprockets, this causes excessive heat buildup which leads to premature chain failure. If you can use a #530 o-ring chain (will fit on your #50 sprockets), being sure to keep it pretty long you should have zero problems. If you can get it to work, I would suggest you setup your drive train to accept a standard length ATV chain.

they dropped it in the mail via UPS today. USPS is faster than UPS, so it'll be friday or monday (UPS doesn't deliver on sat or sun).

meanwhile i have some help coming out tonight (finally, lol). my regular "employee" got picked up for back child support a few weeks ago, and everyone else has been too busy. i thought $20 for 5 hours of work was a good deal that people would be jumping for... lol.

wow, the steering u-joint came in the mail today. that was fast! they must have overnighted it or something...

meanwhile, trained the "new guy" on how to grind, while i shortened a CV axle, and made the bearing carrier plates for the rear sprocket/rotor spool. called it an early night (3am) because my helper's arms got tired. rookie... lol.

Gota say i was d**n impressed with how fast your buggy was on the test drive i no there will be no problems with speed for me on this thing and the pictures do no justice for this build you gotta really see it in person to understand how nice the buggy is and how big lol good job dave keep up the good work

You should try to do the next one with peddles that hang instead of floor mount. They look better. and its just got a professional feel to it.lol

But i laughed a little when i saw all this great work you've done,but the peddles are the most simple basic setup.lol Id lay like expanded steel across them.
