Nice paint job. Have you been using primer on the bare matal? Are you just using normal rattle can paint, or is it some kind of automotive paint? Does it chip off easily?

Rustoleum baby. ohhh yeahhhh. lol. i drenched it good. wasn't a need for a second coat. it was thick stuff, covered up permanent marker markings and everything! will give Mike a can for touch-up.

Rustoleum is the bomb
Lasts longer the enamel CAT paint we use on the dumpys

Alought if u want it to last longer put it on in a lot of very light coats
Do the first coat is just patches of light paint

Otherwise it is just a big blanket of paint that u can peal it off with a screw driver

the rustoleum works great, even with a good single coat. my personal buggy has held up great, even after several trips through the mud, sitting out in the rain, and a few baths. many months later and still looking sharp! just ask Mike. :)

time to start slapping the buggy back together. will be making castle nuts for the spindle bolts - simply grind out a notch in the nut, and drill an 1/8" hole in the bolt for a cotter pin. then there's no worries of the front end getting loose!

Did you mask off/disassemble the CV axles, steering rack, shocks, or rear axle setup? From the pictures it looks like you just spray painted over everything... I have to say I agree with Fowler and landuse on the subject of painting technique.

I hate to add to this, but I have to agree with the painting. Add a second coat and properly mask off the shock slide, It's really not good for the seals to have paint getting shoved into them.

Oh ya I didn't spot that Well done

Your shocks are chomed steel that are milled to very close tolerances and is a perfectly smooth
This is because as the cylender slides it passes over a seal, a backup ring and a dust seal

Paint will tear these seals
Also it will peal off in side and do severe internal damage

i agree, my painting methods could use some improvement. but before we TOTALLY ruin this thread for any kind of promotional purposes... especially after the countless hundreds of hours i have put into fabricating the buggy - i vote we give the paint thing a rest. :)

i agree, it IS a public forum. and i appreciate the input you guys are giving me. but it seems like it's going a little over the top about the paint and shocks. :)

for all you shock rights activists out there: no shocks were harmed in the making of this buggy. lol.

i only painted the front shocks, which the chrome shaft is covered by a plastic sleeve. so only the springs and the outer shells were painted. :)

:rolleyes3: Easy,Big Guy!! You're starting to sound like one of the ballot proposals you & I get to vote on next month (too much time on the couch, recovering from the flu????). I'm sure all comments were in the vein of "constructive critisisium". Or, conversely, they were trying to help prevent a "Warranty Call Back Issue". Speaking from personal experience, those are to be avoided when ever possible.....:ack2:

re-assembly 70% done. why is always so much faster to take something apart than it is to put it back together?

Managed to miss anything to do with avian flu's (so far; famous last words, maybe?). Sounds like you've got a secondary bronchial infection, as well. If yours is only in your lungs, your still ahead of me; my sinuses are infected as well, and I'm on an inhaler as well as a big bore antibiotic.:ack2:

At least I got a chuckle out of ya'; you sounded like things were getting on the One & Only nerve you had left. How about a contest; the first one of us to die from this crud, looses. Even better, Landuse gets to settle the estate; seeing how he's so local to the mid Michigan area. What do you think?:roflol::cheers2:

EDIT: Maybe I spoke to soon; CBS just went to a commercial break saying something about a meningitis outbreak in 5 states.........:ack2:.......OK, never mind, wrong type of meningitis.

Coz when you take it apart it doesn't matter. When you put it back together, especially after painting, you pay more attention & have to think about it...

I hope you're joking coz he's as local to Michigan as I am :worried2:
