Dingo needs work, TC?

Hey guys I bought this Manco Dingo off CL for $185, I knew it needed some work but my lack of history on them led me to believe maybe this one was built before they had torque converters.

Further reading now tells me they all came with a TC. Is it possible this gearing setup with a clutch could be right for these size wheels or do you HAVE to have a TC? I will get in there and count the teeth if needed, I am sure you will need that if it is possible to run it like this. The daughter wants to ride.

Guy I bought it from said it needed a clutch, is that because a new one will get fried quick on this setup? What have I done? :confused:

Also, is there supposed to be a nut or something on the end of this thing where I have the red arrow? There is a lot of grease coming out of it. :ack2:

It has a Briggs & Stratton on it and I noticed the tie rods have been welded and now looking at it maybe it is not stock Dingo steering setup either? :surrender:

Hope you guys can help me get this thing right, thanks for any help you can give. Yeah the sprockets are dirty now from leaves and stuff in the yard.

FWIW,mine is a similar setup on a Manco Bandit II except the axle sprocket on mine is on the right side.
It's now got a 10 tooth clutch sprocket going to a 14 tooth jackshaft sprocket.The other end of the j/s has a 10 tooth sprocket turning a 60 tooth axle sprocket.
The grease coming out of your bearings is probably from the zerk grease fitting on the back of your jackshaft housing.
It looks like you could use a collar on the right(passenger) side of the j/s to prevent lateral travel.

About original Dingo? Here is a vid og one I did a few years ogo. Should help you out. I added some bells and whistles but it's stock for the most part running wise.

FYI there is another thread where I guy just took off his TC to his dingo. I would ask him whats up? go back to stock. The Dingos rule in my book. It looks like your whole front has been change.

What is the tooth count on all your sprockets and clutch. We can then work out what gearing you have at the moment. It goes like this:

(Clutch/JS in) * (Axle sprocket/JS out) = Ratio

In the first half of the equation, use the larger tooth count divided by the smaller count.

Bigger problems now

Thanks guys, good thing I have some time off from work as this is another full time job LOL. Broke one of those plastic pins in the pullstart, replaced that with an old one out of junk motor. On the next pull the rope broke. :toetap05:

It was frayed so OK, I replaced the rope. Got it started, the kids had some fun in the yard and then the boy wrecked it into a tree. Bent the spindle all up. :censored:

I will get some pics up of the damage. The front end was already shady, it is all changed around from stock and I don't think the Ackerman is right or something, it does not steer correctly IMO the more you turn the wheel.

landuse, I will try to get those teeth counted today so I can figure out the ratio, thanks.

bighead, I saw where you said elsewhere that the Dingo was your best steering kart but I am afraid it will be a lot of work to put this back to stock. Here is a better pic of the front end before the wreck:
