The main welding was done with a gas less M.I.G welder its not a nice looking weld but it is strong!. Today's job is going to be looking at mounting the engine above the rear axle (this might take some time with lots of cups of tea!!!) will get back to you all soon wish me luck!!!!!!!

It does look like it is coming along very nice!
Am I understanding this? You used a flux core welder on the thin bike metal? If so that might open my world up a little more lol

Nick, if you're careful, you can weld as thin as .032"...... ( pros can most likely go thinner, but not much) ... It's mostly in the skills....... A bike frame is probably just as thick as the pieces of square tube you brought back home on the plane..... 1/16"....?

Dengie..... You make me sic...... And I say that with much respect. You're making it look SO easy, not to mention slick! Keep it up..... Let me grab a fresh bag.... Hold on :popcorn::popcorn::cheers2:

This is the VW G60 1800cc Supercharged engine that we rebuilt with over £1500 of genuine VW spares, stainless bolts all over new bearings, rings, new distributor, water pump ete ete. the gearbox casting was hand flatted and polished my the two of us. this took well over 400 hrs to get it as shinny as you see it in the picture. The last picture is of me holding the super charger after we had finished polishing it. hmmmmm i wonder a supercharged trike................maybe the next project!!!

My new base to take over the world hahaha!

Well trike work had to go on the back burner for a while. Though i have been very busy first off out came my saw bench and we striped some ply board down for shuttering. Then take three! tons of ballast, ten bags of cement, one mixer, one Ric and two afternoons bloody hard graft we had a concrete base. Then add to this 226 house bricks (which we reclaimed ourselves) then a bit of cement and we had a two course brick wall to sit the workshop on. After all of this had been left a few days to cure we then started to put the building up (which i had bought a year before and had removed all the tin and turned it round) We are now half way through lining the whole building with more ply board (again reclaimed for free!!!!!) the first picture is of the shed before we took it down to move it to our farm

I have 2 sheds, dismantled down to wall panels, sitting in my back yard waiting to be assembled; with just what's in my yard, they're already full...

workshop/compressor

So this is my first post in a while well i have been busy with fitting out the new workshop getting the bench were i want it. The whole workshop was lined for free with second had Youngmans deck board (marine ply board) which was then painted. My lovely cast Iron log burner was next to be fitted. Then came my compressor which is a 'Bitsa' the tank is made by a British company called A.I.R it has a test date of 23/6/1939. The pump is Ex R.A.F and has a nice brass plate on it which say's 1944 and the single phase Brooks motor which is a 1/2 HP single phase 240 V which again has a nice brass plate made 1936!

At last back to the Trike!!!!!!

So with the new headquarters of Dengie Customs coming along nicely I got back to the build so with the engine sub frame made the problem was how to mount it..... I looked at it for days but nothing was coming to me Yesterday i had my good mate Ric with me as he was working on his VW golf build he then said some very wise words......"don't think just weld" so i did and then the ideas seemed to flow the arc welder came out and I got busy

Nice project, very nice workshop and wise words indeed from your mate - I often spend far too long thinking things through instead of jumping in and getting on with it.

Engine on chassis first Time fingers crossed!!!!!!

So the big problem was solved the engine sub frame was on every thing was done lining it up with the old Mark one eye ball!. It was beginning to get there. But would the engine hit the back of our seat?. So before we did any thing else out came the spanners for a mock up of engine and seat together on the chassis for the first time.............!!!

RESULT:wai: "do the dance!" every thing lined up nice with clearance to spare. So now we can think about our nice stainless steel T.I.G welded exhaust and run our motor up for the first time!. its been a good day with plenty of cups of tea.

frame worrys!

So this morning saw yet another mock up (it seems like i have put it together and taken it to bits hundreds of times!) i noticed a problem the rear arms were flexing this in turn made the engine rock not good!. this was a good time for a brew........one very nice cup of tea later and i decided for a little more metal and some more welding would be the answer so yet another take down!. But then quite a problem ran out of M.I.G wire DOH!:furious2: so now the welding is on hold for a couple of days till i can buy another reel. Here is a few pics showing were im at

Frame done!!!!

Well me welding wire turned up in the post so the last few bit were done to the frame a couple of gussets and we were done. so yet another mock up to check every thing still lined up which it did. We have ended up with what i think should be a very strong frame (time will tell!!). Really now i have got to wait for my funds tin to replenish as i need £30 for keys for the rear axle(i need three in total) and i need another £30 for a chain and sprocket set. So we went back to our engine which we have never herd run! some oil and fuel were added plus some fuel line and we tried!! after a bit of tugging it chuffed a few time but did not run the timing was spot on but the spark was not good so condenser was cooked. On the plus side of this i have found a company that does an electronic ignition which is a direct replacement for the Wipac unit down side is another £50!!!!!!!!!!! oh well its only money!!!!!!!!

So i looked for something to do today which was not going to cost money now a few months ago on the bay i found another B.S.A f12 engine which i bought for £25 which was a steal. this engine after a quick unbolt of the head was perfect inside apart from a stuck open exhaust valve. This will end up on our second trike which we are all ready thinking about. Now our first engine is in pretty much standard form so after a cuppa we decided that we should strip the second engine right down so see were we could gain a few horses!:stir:here are some pics of the tare down

IMG_0072.jpg
IMG_0069.jpg
IMG_0074.jpg

Seeing the internals laid out on the bench another cup of tea was made then we had a good look and a think on what we were going to do!. At a quick glance we decided that the crank will have to have some work rounding it off a polish( to help the oil run) and a balance the con rod will get polished . the ports were tight with quite sharp bends and were quite small so a little work there and thats just for starters

don't think just weld!

The reaserch and development engine!!!!!!!

Right second engine in bits on the bench first job a quick clean and degrease before we went any further.First job ports and valves before we started i took some pics and did a bit of measuring both ports were 21mm in diameter before we started. I figured do one first so i picked the worst valve the exhaust! first job was the port. Out came the dremmel and after a hours careful grinding and polishing things were looking better
