Where are you getting the 16" number on your tires? Your kart has 18" tall tires in the pictures you posted.

Also for 16" tall tires on the rear of a kart you effectively would need a 72T sprocket. I'm also going to have to question your estimated speed of 30mph or why you would think a yerf-dog could reach 40 under normal circumstances with a torque converter.

Yes, you're right about the effect of the jackshaft gearing.

It sounds like you might have a heavier-duty clutch. Yours is a 40. I thought that I had a Comet 30, but there is a '20' on the outer driven sheave. ??

The 20 does not mean that you have a TAV 20

if you are not off roading with it then maybe consider smaller diameter tires if going the cent. clutch route? otherwise, as already stated, i am betting you will not be happy with that setup ( engine size, gearing and tire size) reguardless of which cent clutch you try.

The 18's are going to be replaced with 16's when I swap axles. I got a set of 5 16's from BMI for cheap.

When we bought the Yerf-Dog, it came with paperwork that said it would do 40 to 45. It was pretty quick out of the box. That was 15 years ago; no GPS phones back then.

As far as now, based on who and how the cart gets used, 20 would be plenty.

The tires will be 16". If the 60 tooth sprocket will still be too tall, I could go to a 72 or larger (if that provides enough ground clearance) or I could keep the jackshat (what overall ratio should I target in that eventuality?). Again, 20 mph target.
