The crank and con-rod become one when it seizes, so one of them has to yield. Guess which one? The con-rod is welded to the crank journal and then it snaps into several pieces, usually first near the wrist pin where it is the thinnest. Would love a slow motion replay but the pieces become an interference between the block and the crank and they get pushed out through the side.
I think someone said that their rod snapped at the top, disconnected from the piston and then from the shock of that happening, the rod freed itself to turn another 1/4 on the journal and the then mostly intact rod went horizontal like a battering ram on the block. These parts are still aluminum on aluminum so it's still quite impressive.
It's shocking how thin the block is in some places, probably 3/16" to 1/8".
