there is only one 2 lane road joining the east and west of the country and its the longest striaght road in the world
not to mention u have to cross a huge desert

go onto google maps and type Norseman west aus to Port Aurgusta south aus
thats the last town in west aus to the first in south aus

...in western australia we have 2 perminent cameras and they are only 1 year old and u are lucky to see a 1 cop every few weeks even in the city

to mod a car u can do a certain amount before u require an engeneers certificate
but because u rearely get caught what alot of people do is mod the car and drive as is till they get caught
then take it home, un mod it take it to the pits where they pass then go back home and remodify it
theres no law about how many times u can do that

Sounds like West Texas has a LOT in common with Western Australia!!!

The way fabroman made it sound was that no one did anything to their road vehicles because you weren't allowed to. I guess it might be different in your province.

Wait up, when did I say that?

Did you not see the vids of my old car? Lowered 2" at the front, 1.5 at the back, straight through 2" exhaust, 15" wheels, sound system that'll blow your eardrums (ok, that wasn't legal, technically)...

Pretty much, thats the real problem with Australia

Fowler was spot on: the laws in the western states are more lax than the eastern states, mostly because of the population difference (more people = more cars on the road at the same time)

A person could buy a decent house for less. :ack2:
While it may depend on the area, but still. :ack2:

I think I will stick to 2nd hand or 3rd... or 4th... 5th 6th 7th hand vehicles. Might be able to afford something then. :roflol:

Seems like i heard a while back that the average American pays $400 a month on their car loan. A new, full-size truck would currently run you $30,000-$40,000.

Here's what we've got one the lot currently at work:

Heres my latest steal. Picture doesnt really show much, but its an 01 nissan altima gxe, 4 cyl 5 speed, 148k miles. power everything (including seat. Needs a wheel bearing, and it idles funny, which PO said was an intake manifold gasket. Picked this puppy up for $400. was a family friends wife's car so its in amazing shape. No rust anywhere, interior is immaculate. Also came with decent snows and a nice set of toyo summer tires too.

Kinda crappy lookin car, but im going to fix the vacuum leak and wheel bearing and flop it in the spring for a nice profit. Low book is about $2500

EDIT: thats all just dirt from back roads, looks kinda like rust in pic.

Can't legally drive yet, but this will be my daily..

1984 golf c. MK1. 86,000 miles on the clock (genuine average of about 3k a year!)
Set me back too much! £2,000. But the wheels, tires and bumpers are worth around £1500 new, and they are in very good condition!
When I saw it, I had to have it. Had been looking for 6 months.

Small, low and wide. The complete opposite to what you yanks seem to like!
