Anyone have any experience with CV shafts? good? bad? ugly?
I need to upgrade the axle shafts on Franken buggy. I'm not happy with the junk shafts that I cobbled together from old driveshafts.
The old adage "ya can't make chicken soup from chicken s**t" has proven true once again. Egor balanced them and trued them, but the operating angle is purdy serious, and that creates some vibration problems among others. The angle is extreme due to the short length of the shafts.
We found some FWD CV axle shafts that are not horribly expensive and I think we are going to give it a try.
Looking for tips/tricks/ideas/experiences.
Jokes, harassment, thread tangents, hijacking and criticism are always welcome, as usual!

I'd say Denny is right, those have hold up to more power than is going through Franken buggy, for lotsa miles. If your really worried then pick some up from a "hot hatch" but you shouldn't need those.

Well, considering front drive cars been using them go over 50 years
Well, I wasn't looking for a history lesson, as much as tip and tricks. Surely I'm not in uncharted territory again, am I?

! But I’m confident in you if there’s a way to make them not work I’m sure you’ll figure it out.
Well Duh, that goes without saying...
Thats why I keep Egor around. He has excellent job security!

"Here goes that crazy old geezer, off on some weird exploration again"! Well I'll show you, no I won't show how I spent four days and $xxx effen around, errr ahh I mean how cool this turned out!
I'll pick up one tomorrow and commence screwing it, errr ahhh I mean, making it work!
I'll do what I do best, turn perfectly good steel and/or parts into worthless scrap metal!

I'm really most dissapointed in the lack of smart azz comments and discouraging words. What has this forum turned into?

I’ve been told recently I’m too mean and all I do is run people off. So I’m going to start keeping my big mouth shut. Good luck, I know Egor will be of great value to you in this project.

I don't have any expertise! I don't know! Maybe pull some off of a Miata rear end if you want dumb suggestions.

CV's are a good way to go. The biggest thing to remember is angle. If you have too much they can come apart. Obviuosly some cvs can take a lot more angle than others, that usually equates to more angle=more money. I used cvs on my setup and used cheap/heavy Chevy s10 cv's i think 1985. readily available, and inexpensive. They are heavier than say porsche 930 and cant give the same droop/angle. I had a local plasma cutter make flanges to bolt my cv's to and then i drilled them and welded them to my axle.
