Terribly excited! Might even be able to have one and make it to the December 5-7 Electrathon race at Disney. This is a totally new thing for all of the electrathon cars. No more having either regen braking OR coasting. Having both!

sweet dude!

Frankyy: It is really cool. The linkage will be interesting because the clutch will need to be disengaged when neither throttle or brake is being pressed, but - with clever springs and things - I am sure it can be done.

Hi all,

I'm happy to report that we have some good news for everyone interested in ordering a clutch. We've finally received all of the necessary parts and hardware, and everything has met or exceeded our standards. Currently, we're working on manufacturing fixtures that will allow us to assemble these clutches with speed and precision, and that will also permit us to test the actuation of each clutch individually before shipment. We estimate that we'll be taking orders by the end of next week, and hopefully shipping the following week. It has been a long journey with this project full of hard work and learning experiences, but ultimately we are very satisfied with the final product and we can't wait to see what type of interesting builds people can come up with using our clutch. We will be taking orders through our website so that people can pay securely using paypal which offers several payment methods. We will publish the website when we are ready to take orders, and we will be giving preference to the people on our list that have shown interest in chronological order. If we happen to run out on this order for folks that are interested, we are already in the works to start up another future order after we sell the first batch.

In addition, feel free to direct any questions regarding the clutch to this forum, or to our email at downsbrosracing@gmail.com

Thanks again, and hang tight!

cool, since i lost track of 14 pages of posts i was wondering what your policy is if there is a failure in lets say 30 days ?
or if you need a replacement part ?
and if there are different tooth counts for it ?

Can you tell me about how much torque this clutch will take in foot pounds without smoking it?
Thanks.

I believe in a test they did it took over well over 40lbs for it to give any. Thats well over what our usual engine could ever hope to come close to.

Glad to hear about the progress!
I would love to have one of these... weather or not I have the $$$ is another story. :ack2:

Hi All,

We finally have some good news to report. We've started to assemble and package clutches and we are getting extremely close to taking orders through our website. As we've stated before, our current stock is limited to 100 completed clutches (we do have spare parts for purchase) and we'd like to give priority to the people on the forums that have shown interest first. We have a list of all these people that have either posted on the forum with interest, or have sent us a PM.

-We have published our website (Downs Brothers Racing) and we are in the process of adding new information every day so please check back for more videos and pictures. Currently, the only pages that work are the homepage, about the technology, the store, and photos. We will be posting new videos of our current production clutch operating on a go kart soon so stay tuned.

-The version of the store webpage that is public right now does not allow the user to purchase items through paypal at this time. We are going to go through our priority list at the beginning of next week and send out a special URL for these users to place an order through our website. Once everyone has had an opportunity to place an order if they are still interested, we are going to make the store access public.

-Also, we are going to be placing an order for more clutches in the near future. If you miss an opportunity to purchase this time around, there will be more coming in.

Please feel free to ask any questions; we really can't wait to start shipping these bad boys next week!

14T for a #35 chain (just this one for now)

That is, if they didn't changed the chaintype, but 14T for sure.

Man i was afraid of that..... I seem to tear up 35's easy. Was hoping it was a 40 or 41. I'm REAL abusive on my toys.... I tore a 35 into 4 pieces 3 weeks ago doing a donut in the middle of our shop at work. I guess I'm gonna bite the bullet and order one anyway. I think it will work great on the speed freak kart I want to build.

My best bet is, that the sprocket itself is an off the shelf product, so maybe you could even find a replacement in your desired chainsize, once you know the details (bore, thickness etc.)
