Very cool. Put me down for one.

Also, congrats... and best of luck with this. Hopefully soon, you'll be all over all of the kart/mini bike sites with the coolest new hobby accessory on the market.

ddowns46, I got a question about performance of this manual clutch. Can you run a go-kart or mini bike at engine idle speed with clutch totally engaged?

From what it looks like the clutch links the shaft when engaged and releases when disengaged. A gas engine, if the vehicle was stopped, would stall. Early in the thread they talked about learning how to use it because it can create a stall condition.

I hope that is how it works. I have an application with an electric vehicle and will be using the clutch to coast, so most of the time it will be engaged and only disengaged when coasting.

If I understand your question correctly, yes you can run the engine at idle speed with clutch engaged, BUT you would do it like you were "cruzin" .... and you would have to have forward motion with clutch fully engaged then let off throttle till it just coasts..... should stay running if your governor is working correctly. You wont climb any hills like that though, in case you're wondering. .And the engine will die if you stop the kart/Mbike with clutch engaged..... Someone correct me if I'm wrong please....

It would be just like driving a manual car. You can red-line the engine and drop the clutch, engine brake, etc.

Yeah I know, the governor will do the job. What happens when the governor was removed? I think that the go-kart runs at idle or very low speed depending the engine horsepower, gear ratio and weight of it.

I think that is not the same, the car has a manual transmission with different speeds ratios. Would be perfect if they manufacture a manual transmission for go-kart to install with this manual clutch.

A manual transmission There was that Margay gearbox or am I missing things up again?

Anyways, I'm sure, that if your engine has enough torque at idle speed it will move your kart forward even if the governor was removed.

I'd guess something around 15-20Nm will be necessary to move you and miniCJ at idlespeed. (Just a Guestimation of course)

na what he saying is u can engage the clutch at any time u want just like in a manual car

but that doesnt mean the engine will power u forward
just like a manual car if u drop the clutch at idle it will likely stall

unless u gear it to have enough power to drive at idle

what u are asking isnt something they can change with their clutch it is somthing u must change as the customer on the clutch and the owner of the engine

but also like in a car the clutch will work perfectly if u use it right

if your car was stuck in a single gear
that is what it would be like

i do agree they should start manufacturing gear boxes as well

Even a two speed with reverse would go alright

But while u are at it a 7 speed sequential quick shift which paddle shifters

I mean it can't be that hard:lolgoku:

That's the point.

Might buy this clutch, but not for single speed application

As of now, almost all of the parts and accessories have been ordered for the first set of clutches so we have a better understanding of the price. I can guarantee that the price will be somewhere between $135-150. We are thinking that we will offer the clutch at the bottom of this price range for the first 50 units, and then have to raise the price thereafter. To give you an idea about price, just for the machining and heat treating, the cheapest US shop quoted us at $450 per unit!

I'd like to get people's feedback on the above comments. I know we had said $100 before, but we believe that at a price tag of $135-150, the product is still a very good bang for your buck. Feel free to give us your feedback!

Any chance of you being able to send one of these overseas? I'm in Australia mate.

Update from their thread over at OMB. Good news... yay.

Hi all, our parts made it to oakland earlier this week and are now sitting in a warehouse in San Francisco. We should get the delivery early next week. If the parts are made to the drawing and everything goes well during assembly, we'll start sending out PM's for orders as early as the week after next.

Terribly excited! Might even be able to have one and make it to the December 5-7 Electrathon race at Disney. This is a totally new thing for all of the electrathon cars. No more having either regen braking OR coasting. Having both!
