I can register it as a custom motorcycle, but there is a good chance its been stolen, the VIN is ground off. If they ran the VIN and it came up as stolen they would impound it until they found the original owner....

Custom stuff doesnt have a vin, and you need a diff to ride on the road.

I have seen Actual Brand name 3 wheelers(honda, yamaha, etc) made road legal. They have straight axles. If you think handling might be a problem, it isnt. Turns fine.

Weird, I have a Michigan salvage/custom title inspection sheet and under motorcycle, differential(on 3 wheel vehicles) is on the list.

Years ago before quads became so popular I had one of these to toy around with. Still think 3 wheelers handle much better than quads.

Just got a late 60's early 70's Johnson 9.5 sea horse boat engine for 75$. The thing looks like it barely been used. It wouldn't turn over all the way so i pulled the flywheel and the condensor had come loose and got caught in there. Put in a new one from some sled parts i had and she fired right up! This thing has compression up the ying-yang. Cant wait to try it.

Mr. Crazycart:
Are you considering mounting this to a kart? If so, I'd be very interested in knowing how you will go about it.
I am currently bidding on a Johnson 5 hp and have no idea what I'm up against. I need a winter project but may be biting off more than I can chew.
The fact that these are water cooled may be enough to stop me dead in my tracks. The idea of adding a cooling system doesn't exactly thrill me. However, I don't give up easily.
I also envision pto as a source of major Advil moments.
I have extensive experience on outboards, but only from a powerhead standpoint.
If it works...will open a whole new window of opportunity for those of us who think outside the box.

No actually i was going to mount it on my little jonboat for duck hunting. I did consider how cool it would be though. Twin Liquid cooled engine. Also, i might be picking up ANOTHER project today. a 1984 Yamaha IT490 Dirtbike. Its the bigbore of its predecessor 465. These bikes are absolute BEASTS. Idk how many of you have seen them but they will power wheelie in 5th at 70+ MPH!! I might put the engine in a trike Chassis! They also have no counter balancer or balanced crank so they vibrate like hell! YOU CAN FEEEEL THE POWER

IM EXCITED :drool5:

Did i mention FREE? :bannana: :sifone: OH! and its a 2 STROKE! A big one at that...

Hey Guys! Love the H_LL out of the "New" ATC! Definetly will hold top-speed honors in the "LowRider" contest!

Russ- there was do-it-yourself plans for a liquid-cooled outboard motor, powering a 48" airplane prop on a sled. They went into pretty good detail on the cooling requirements. http://www.vintageprojects.com/go-kart/pdf/Snowsled.pdf
I would think that if a person couldn't mechanically get the water to circulate (pump is way down at water level on outboards) a person could use the charging system under the flywheel to run a small 12v pump, and mount it accordingly. I'm thinking new thread.

Here in AZ ATC's are considered motorcycles, so they only have to meet the bikes rules (Lights, horn, mirror.)

Yeah i think they have a 89mm piston, that's 3.5 inches wide. The IT490 I'm getting has a 87mm.Itll whoop on alot of the new liquid bikes.
