Hey guys I'm new to all this go kart thing, I just bought a 6hp murray go kart and a 11hp tecumseh motor.... Took the motor out and the problem is the crankshaft is too long and the clutch that came with the motor can't slide all the way back to meet up with the chain.... Question is, is there any clutches that have a key hole that I can slide it all the way to where I wanted? Or if not can I just use a angle grinder to trim what I don't need so the clutch and my chain can match up?..... Also I tried researching but can't find anything please help....

Thank you

:wai: I am confused. Is that a stepped crank or is not the keyway slot long enough? Yes you can cut the crank, but I would use a cutoff tool with a thin disk.

you have a clutch with a built in stop right ? you COULD try to cut out the stop with a die grinder.....and then slide it on to the crank further. maybe consider a spacer behind it and in front of it to prevent lateral movement....or buy a clutch that does not have that little stop built in. with that much power though, be careful to buy a clutch that will handle it!

Yeah it stops on the tip of the crankshaft.... But can I use a angle grinder to cut like half off? Will that mess up the crank?

Your pictures show a normal PTO. I fail to see the issue here, OTHER than the fact that it's all rusty. The fitment between machined surfaces is fine enough that the rust you have is very likely causing the problem. Clean all that rust off with sandpaper, and if need be, file a very slight bevel on the end of it, and report back.

one thing- pics do not show a keyway in the crankshaft. Is there one?

:wai: You can see a wear pattern about 1" or so on the shaft. Do like Toystory stated, clean the shaft and the clutch I.D. It appears to me that the clutch is not going to line up with the axle gear even with it reversed. Has that clutch ever been on that engine and with the chain installed?

Once again this question, my 1 inch clutch only goes on an inch or so

Interesting. Well, stupid, really (IMO). Being limited like that would just end up ticking me off. There's probably a purpose for it, but I don't think I'd get along well with the fact that you have but one mounting option.

EDIT- sorry, brain cramp- I just figured it out. You can't physically have that few teeth around a 1" bore...
