Crankshaft Adapter Won’t Come Off

Hey,

I have an engine with an adapter on the crankshaft. I’ve kept PB Blaster on it and tried a gear puller it get it off. It won’t budge. Anything else I could try? Any other options? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also, any good ways to hold the crankshaft to stop it from spinning?

Make sure all set screws have been removed.
Soak it with PB Blaster for about a week.
Try stuffing a length of soft rope down the spark plug hole to keep it from spinning.
Last resort could be to use a torch to heat it up to expand it, or to cut it off.
What dk you mean by the gear puller isn't working? Does it pop off? Does it just not move?

The gear puller pops off and it doesn’t really be seeming to move the adapter. But it may be because of how rusted it is

Use like a 3 inch hose clamp where the teeth are to hold the puller teeth on? Make sure it’s pushing against the crank end, I can’t tell by the pics if that’s one piece or if it’s just pulling against itself if that makes sense. May need to put a metal dowel of sorts if there’s a hole in the end “if” that adapter is one piece. (Where the threads are and the end nose)
Personally I’d ad some HEAT.

Need heat... lots of it...
A propane or better.. an acetylene torch would be great....
Keep the heat moving and watch out for the shaft seal....
Also, polish the end of the shaft.. that will make it easier to pull the item off..

Yep. Start off with a propane torch. Heat it up like described above. After heating use a mix of 50/50 ATF fluid and Acetone for your penetrating fluid. Use the fluid while the piece is still hot (not hot enough to ignite it obviously) if this doesn’t work it’s cutting time.

A better puller world help. Three jaw. A bearing separator would givea better bite.

Use a cut off wheel to slice as deep as you dare.

Heat is useful but if you're puller is slipping off....
