Am i able to put atv wheels on a racing type go kart? Im working on a go kart track at a farm theres alot of small rocks around some pebble size, so is there anyway of mounting atv wheels on a racing go out with out to many mods?

On a go kart like this

Depending on your tire size the gearing was made with. What size tires do you have on the cart and what size atv wheels do you have? If the atv wheels are more than 2 inches bigger in diameter i would change your gearing in order to use them without burning anything up.

The wheels we are using are average go kart slicks wheels (is there an average?) I dont have any atv wheels at the moment but wondering if it can be done, before i go buy the atv wheels.
I was thinking of using something like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/6-INCH-W..._Accessories&hash=item20b68f1997#ht_616wt_905

There is a place in Adelaide that makes custom made off road wheels for go karts but they are wanting $500 for the set :/

Thanks

no matter what u get it will be more expensive because we are in aus :mad2:

im in perth

we need the stud measurement and pattern

i have no idea about these karts but the hubs will determine the wheels u can use (without many mods)

also u will have to change the gearing

lastly u are probs best makeing the mount your self
otherwize try karting shops or get it made my a machine shop

what "clone" are u useing
dont use the scorpion ones
their generators are true junk
i assume u know we dont get the traditional blue clones here

u would be better of using a true second hand honda
they are everywhere and far more common than clones
iv never sen a clone in use anywhere in aus
or mod a victa lawn mower
we have a victa spesialist of sorts on here

If you find cheap wheels, you can always change the bolt pattern on the wheel to match your hub. I have taken a disk that I had cut to fit the inside of my wheel, welded it in the wheel and drilled matching holes for the hub. You just need to be accurate with your measurements.

well i was thinking..... and i think i might buy some wet weather tyres and rake the rocks out of the way. When i get time and money ill build bigger go kart using atv wheels.

And heres another question
When i go up to a friends farm he usually has couple of Honda motors around but they are seized he also as a Mitsubishi one to but is it easy to fix a seized motor? Might bring one down and pull it to bits, probably give me a very go idea of how a motor works :D

If not i was thinking of getting a Honda clone : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/6-5hp-ho...ools_Pumps&hash=item3cbcc140a4#ht_2201wt_1163

A siezed motor means it does not turnover. You will 75% of the time put a decent chunck of change into a camshaft or crankshaft. If he will give it to you for free it worth a shot but it all depends on buget and if the engine is salvageable.

Just because they don't move does not mean that they are completely seized. On engines that sit outside all year, throughout the winter, etc., they freeze up. Meaning, empty the oil completely, fill it completely up with kerosene, and let it sit for a day or two with the kerosene in it. 9 times out of 10, this will clean everything up and get it running again. After you let the kerosene drain(make sure all of it is out), refill her with oil, and do what you want. To clean all of the kerosene out, you may need to take the side-case off and wipe it down and blow air through it.

I'll second that. "Seized" engines are very often quite saveable. Sometimes you have to remove the crankshaft and tap the piston free with a hammer and a wood block. Don't necessarily take anyone's word for it, either. I once received a "seized" engine that started right up for me.

With regards to big tires on a racer, not only will the gearing be so far off that the kart won't move, I would also suspect that the frame and axles may not tolerate the additional stresses.

Take the spark plug out and put a mixture of brake fluid, transmission fluid and diesel fluid in the spark plug hole. Let it sit for 2-3 days. After that, take off the recoil and put a socket & breaker bar on the flywheel nut. Gently rock back and forth on the breaker bar. This method has worked for me several times.

Interesting cocktail- serve with ice in a salt-rimmed glass. Kidding. QT- when you say "diesel fluid" do you mean "fuel", or something else. Is there a magic proportion?

Sorry, TS. I meant diesel fuel. This concoction was given to me by an old farmer. Our daughters were both friends in college. He had a lot of tricks up his sleeve. This one worked for me!
