I'd rather earn bugger all doing something I like than earn heaps doing something I hate.

But that's the thing. I was seriously considering both pharmacy and engineering. I though engineering won because of how much I like cars, but I can also major in pharmacy and minor in engineering. May of the classes are common between both majors so one would count towards both degrees. It would give me all the engineering background I could want to fuel my love of cars/motors/etc. but then have twice the salary to play with cars/motors/etc.

its funny how you say the engineering would be the lesser-income of your choises.

mechanics wont get me much at all but id be happier..... only thing is the car industry may be really changing soon since gas is $5 a gallon.

if i was u blue id go to canda

get into this oil sands industry
the company i work for is also in oil sands
they hire out mining equipment

they are so short of workers they are willing to ship all your tools and equipment
get u a car and house on there books and find your wife a job all just to get u to canada
and this is taking people from a state that also has serious lack of skilled work

Mechanical engineering averages about $70k while retail pharmacy averages about $110k. Pharmacy isn't just sitting behind a desk dishing out pills either. You can be clinical and work in a hospital, R and D in a lab, etc. There are many aspects to pharmacy and the additional pay and increased job security are added bonuses.

ok so a mechanic is like 7.50 an hour as an apprentance out of high school

8.50-11 an hour if youre just the regular guy who changes oil at pepboy's

55-75 an hour as a full service technitian (transmissions, diesel, rebuilds)

Large corporations (Goodyear, Midas, etc.) offer the best benefits, low pay, and little interest in continuing education.
In order to make good money as a mechanic, a person needs to: (1) become ASE master certified or better; (2) specialize in automatic transmissions; (3) be a diesel mechanic; (4) find a fleet job; (5) specialize in drivability/engine repair; or (6) stay in one place a long, long, time.

The average salary for auto mechanic jobs is $36,000. Average auto mechanic salaries can vary greatly due to company, location, industry, experience and benefits.

im on $12 an hour being one week into a 1st year fitter apprentaship

bugger being an auto mechanic thats boring and u go no where with it
(no offence to anyone who does it)

being a desiel mechanic is the best way espesially in mining as u will mainly work on cat and komatsu machines and they are the same anywhere u go in the world

as far as i can see the only down side to this job is the occasonal frustration and long hours
12 hour days 5 days a week plus 1/2 saterday as an option

i like diesels. i want to get a diesel truck.

the people at bristol tech told me when i get a truck, get something thats beat to **** and they will teach me to rebuild the thing.

they were building a few engines and a jeep there, pretty sweet. they are right next to the welding shop, so the welders build the frames of the cars, automotive puts them together.

if u do phamacy stay in the us
if u do enginreering come over here
u can make about 150 in chemical enginreering

That's the thing, I don't want to do chem E. If I go with engineering, it's going to be mechanical E which doesn't pay as well but that's how you get into the auto industry designing/producing stuff.

blue that would make a sick project

u should look for a quick fix truck

i know people who have brought cars advertized as parts and just given it a once over and a service to get it going again

people drive cars because they have to
and people think golbal warming is because of cars so people dont like cars or there builders there by government dont like cars or there builders because they have to "fix golbal warming"

people tend to forget or realy dont know where all there stuff comes from and most big companys have too much money to loss and they can afford to pay people way to much to make the company look "enviromentally freindly" so they there by have a free run to do what they want

sorry for my very summed up one sided veiw of the world but i think we can agree its almost right

The auto industry will be around for the infinite forseeable future. Why not get into an every evolving industry? The fuel supplies may change, but the evolution and design of cars will still be there. Also, it could be anything motorized really. Think about working for Polaris, Yamaha, etc.
