Blown seal(s) will leak whatever residual oil may be in crankcase.
Blown seals means that engine was running lean. Bad news for a 2 cycle engine and might best be avoided...my opinion.
An easy fix for the experienced builder.

Seals don't normally perish unless there is some very heavy use on engine.
I have also seen them fail because of backfiring.
It's possible that seals are not the problem.
2 cycle engines will have the appearance of leaking oil when it is simply some excess unburned oil which tends to pool in the exhaust plumbing.
PTO should be checked for any end play or side to side play. There should be non.

I'm waiting on my friend's dad to take me to their garage to give me one. He said they have a few old LB's that don't run and I can have one but he feels it's not worth my time because "it's the wrong shaft, it's vertical (but a 2 stroke!), and it will be tough to mount and HF sells them for $100, but you can have one if you really just want it." YES, give me it and soon. I want to get the crank out while I'm still in school so I can turn it down and mill a key way. This would be a weeks work at most and will be very nice.
On a side note, as no one can complain about going way off topic in my thread, I am absolutely astounded at what my mom just said. I have been tossing around pharmacy as a possible college major but though I settled on mechanical engineering til recently. My calc teacher was a mechanical engineer and said that the market for engineers can be inconsistent and project based so a job isn't always guaranteed.
Then I get home just now and have my interest in pharmacy rekindled. A guy my mom works with, his daughter, just graduated from pharmacy school and was offered a job by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center with a starting salary of $84,000. She met a kid from Vegas at a conference and they got serious and she applied to work as a pharmacist in Vegas for Walgreens. She just got offered a job working 4 8 hour days a week making $142,000!!!!! That's about $85 an hour. I love engineering but maybe minor in that and use the pharmacy salary for my love of building stuff.
Then I get home just now and have my interest in pharmacy rekindled. 2)Pharm it is! Engineering certainly has the potential to pay well, but I would reckon that finding the right employ would be more difficult.

you taking an engineering class? because my teacher paired up our class with some class in PA. near Pittsburgh. and we video chat every few days and we are designing a candy dispenser.

You are absolutely correct! But once you've spent great lengths of time scraping like he// to support your family, you come to the realization that pretty much everything hinges on, well- earning money.
Let us know if you land the LB, Redsox- I'm attempting to do the same. Haven't heard from the guy in awhile...
Nope, that's not me. The only video class we offer is a Mandarin Chinese class. Not exactly up my alley.
I may try to pick it up tomorrow after I "work". I put that in quotes because umpiring baseball games for kids aged 9-12 is quite simple and gets me $12.50-$15 an hour (cash). I figure that if I had already been considering the career, why not pursue it when the pay can be near double. Surely money isn't happiness, but it is comfort.

I think Pharmacy would be a way more stable means of income too. As manufacturing in the USA has been steadily declining over the years, prescription drug use just seems to keep growing and growing.
