A engine with a camshaft activated compression release should never be rotated backwards. It can mangle the de-comp arm and even worse with heavy valve springs.

Because you know all of my engines backfire:toetap05: There was a entire thread about turning engines backwards with the Gx200 Honda style decompression realese. I dont know about the Briggs compression realese as I've never used them. I'm not going to fight about it but could you explain why it doesnt hurt the arm on the Gx200 style? When you turn the motor over reverse it causes the lifter arm on the cam to wedge open even more.

Any currently produced Honda, Lifan, Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, etc., etc can be spun backwards without any fear. Applies to flattys, OHV, and OHC.
