and spacing wont help the belt isn't catching on the drive clutch right because there is a 1/4 of an inch so i need a smaller belt but that is the smallest comet belt
If your driven unit/jackshaft is mounted with a backplate, (like a Tav-2) your backplate should have extra sets of bolt holes where it bolts onto the engine. Simply using a different set of bolt holes can change the required belt length...
Or If your driven unit/jackshaft bolts down to the frame instead of using a backplate:
Does your motormount have 4 slotted holes to simply adjust the engine a 1/4" further away from the jackshaft?
If not, try loosening the jackshaft and the motor mounting bolts, and push them both further apart from each other before re-tightening all the bolts.
If that wont achieve the 1/4" difference you need, you could use a Rat-tail file or Die Grinder to slightly oval shape the jackshaft mounting holes in your frame (and/or the motormounting holes), untill the engine and jackshaft will tighten down 1/4" further apart.
