Comet 40 delay engagement

Is there a way to delay the engagement of the comet 40 tc?
This way the clutch will engage when the engine has a bit more revs and then the engine wont bog as much.
I want the tc to engage at, lets say 2500-3000 rpm?

Yes- the drive unit can be adjusted to engage as low as 1600RPM (factory set up) and as high as 3100RPM. You use a combination of different springs and cam rollers to achieve this. I have a manual for this that details the part numbers. PM me your email addy, and you'll have it in no time.

Also is there a way of moving the spring into a different hole or something on the driven? What does that do?

Re-sent to new addy. Fiddling with the driven alters how long it takes to shift upwards to the highest speed.

Ok cool, i got the email thanks. Where do i get cam rollers? And do you think it would help to have the tc engaging at 2400-2600 rpm with a stock clone (6.5hp)?

yeah this is an old thread, but I am reviving it!
How do you change the spring tension on the driven of the 40 series? has it got different holes like on the 30 series?

There is another way of increasing tension that bighead found out doing belt conversions. If you install a washer (or a more precise spacer) to compress the spring, it will delay the TCs shift rpm.

For some bizarre reason, my genuine Comet 40 only had one hole, although it IS supposed to have three. (old one, or mfg defect, or something) If yours is a case like mine, I simply drilled a new hole on the smae plane about 45* or so away from the existing hole, in the direction of increasing spring preload.

Nope. Has to come off the j/s. Look for a large external C-clip.

on the 40 series driven it comes stock in the center #2 hole if you want to increase or decrease the delay you will have to drill our the holes for #1 and #3, they are there, but are only partially drilled from the factory.
If you want to delay the drive clutch you'll need to replace the factory yellow springs in the drive clutch with stiffer red springs p/n 203040 which brings the engagement rpm up from 2200 rpm to 2600 rpm before the clutch starts to engage.
