Hey folks,

I'm a newb when it comes to go karts, so please be patient. My kiddos KT196 go kart had a weld failure on the sprocket mount (the mount underneath of the fixed engine bracket seen here (#1 is the fixed engine bracket) https://www.colemanpowersportsusa.c...model-years_2015-current/fixed-engine-bracket). I'm going to have that re-welded to fix the issue initially, but have read it's a common re-occuring issue and some reinforcement might be in order.

I've also read/seen in older threads (https://www.diygokarts.com/community/threads/coleman-t-196-jack-shaft-junk.44675/) deleting the jackshaft with this kit (https://www.gopowersports.com/coleman-200-series-torque-converter-kit/) will help with the issue of the welds failing as it takes the jackshaft completely out of the picture.

First question is will that actually kit actually work with my KT196? Just double checking to get confirmation as I don't see it listed in the link as being compatible.

Second question is does this actually help with the welds failing or am I reading into that in the old threads?

Third question is does can the sprocket on the backside be swapped out if the tooth count isn't what I'm after?

Understand if #3 question can't be answered here. I can ask gopowersports the question if needed.

Thanks for any help!

Doesn't that already come with a 30 series t/c????

Somethings from the factory have to be reinforced to work properly. Theres nothing wrong with more bracing, and supports.

Can you get pics of what you have.?????

Theres some really good fabricators here that would like to see what you are working with.

Yep I can grab some pics shortly and post them up. Thanks!

My father-in-law is a welder by trade, so he will do the work for me.

Yea, I see. There's jus not enough there to keep it from bending or breaking.

I'm sure somebody will come in and figure out a way to get it right for you.

Good luck.

Question I have is do I need that kit from Go Power Sports to rid myself of the jackshaft? The KT196 does already come with a torque converter, but I think I'm seeing that kit correctly in that it has a sprocket on the backside of it that would effectively replace the jackshaft. Just trying to confirm.

Ahaha he's a good man and we have a great relationship! He's been a metal fabricator for three decades now, so I'm in good hands. Plus it's for his grandkids, so I'm safe ahaha.
A good wife and father-in-law? That’s a good combination, and a rare one too, you’re a lucky man!

Will that sprocket line up with the axel spocket???

Can the axle sprocket be moved over??? Some have the hub welded and cannot be moved.

It won't line up as it sits now because of the cracked weld if that answers your question?
No. Will the sprocket from that gps t/c kit, line up with the axle sprocket???? I don't think it will, but I cannot see the axle sprocket.

If you go to a TAV II 30 series kit you could in theory get rid of the extra jack shaft IF you could go to a 60 tooth axle sprocket and line it up with the sprocket on the TAV II. Might involve cutting and fabrication!

Ahh ok. That's very helpful. I'm happy to just put this thing back together with the jackshaft. We will just brace it up somehow. My father-in-law is very innovative with this type of stuff, so we should be able to come up with something to help sure this thing up.

He should be able like the rest of us old timers and figure up right quick how to make it last. Like a longer shaft and another bearing to support the shaft.
Would you happen to have any reference pics available?
