I recently go a new go kart (used but new to me) and everything is working a-okay but the clutch which is a centrifugal clutch will not engage and the engine will rev but the wheels will not spin. The engine is a 6.5hp arc racing engine any help?

Is it a racing clutch? It may have too high an engagement.
More importantly, what's the gearing and tire diameter? That's probably the issue.

Could you get some pics please? Those make our lives so much easier.

But when you rev the engine do you hear a decent rattling sound? If the clutch is trying to engage then that's the sound you'll hear, but if you don't hear it then the engagement is too high.

since we have close to zero information
I'm about to go with what Wes said above..
terrible gear ratio wheel weight combo
and the clutch has already burned out on first try.
Just because we've seen such before.

NDRay, how about you post a pic of your kart?
or at least list the following things for us:
Wheeldiameter, approximate weight of the contraption with you in,
number of teeth on the clutch's sprocket, number of teeth on the axle sprocket.

That way we can make a fair assumption.

As of now I assume you have some kart that came with 22" wheels, a gy6 engine
and a tiny 42T axle sprocket and PO and/or you were thinking that was the correct size for
an industrial engine with a cent clutch as well (it is NOT!)
but assumptions ...
we'd rather know what's really going on ;)
So more infos please and a pic or two :D

Gentlemen... don't think I automatically try to assume everything could possibly be wrong with someone's kart. I promise you that is not what I do. All things being equal, if any of you guys tell me your clutch isn't working my first and hopefully correct although possibly wrong assumption until I find out otherwise is that the machine was set-up properly and the clutch has failed.

My years of troubleshooting mechanical and electrical components has DEMANDED that the most obvious and most likely overlooked cause of failure be checked first. And normally this will be the case.

I assume that if your clutch is not working then it must have failed.

If that is the case it must be repaired or replaced.

The next course of action is to determine why did the clutch fail? Is it a gearing problem? Or did it fail due to lack of preventive maintenance? Or did it simply reach its life expectancy?

Happy troubleshooting!

Yeah, what the what?? is right!
If the carb was "totalled"(how does that even happen!?), the engine shouldn't have been revving.
Did you mean to spell chain and got autocorrected?

Ive had this happen to some degree. If I leave the choke on the engine will rev no problem but won't get high enough to actually move the kart. If its a relatively high rev clutch and the carb will not put enough fuel in this could make sense.

....

I just got my new clutch today. Put it on my Honda gx200 and I’ve seen a couple of sparks. I don’t really know what to do. Any recommendations?

I've never heard of that...I have seen one overheat and let metal go from inside when it started glowing red...
... Other than that all I can think of is that the gearing isn't right and it's overheating ....

yeah, took you almost two days to change your mind about that huh? :roflol:
