I’ve seen multiple karts that have two mounting points for the axle bearings, one for a lower ride and one for a higher ground clearance. You might be able to lower the axle a little without any swing arm modifications to allow a little more clearance. And to me, that last picture looks like the sprockets are out of alignment.

What I don’t understand is the drive sprocket size won’t change the clearance near axle so going to a 10t wouldn’t be a problem.

That is if I’m reading and seeing this right. I run 10T/56T 420 on all my 18”-20” tires without problems.

There are two clearance problems: one is between the cross member and the axel sprocket + chain, the other is the chain as it sits on top of the jackshaft (10t) sprocket also sitting on top of the bushings used to space the sprocket away from the mount. The chain was warping the bushings because they were in contact.

It's totally the chain hitting that cross member. I was finally able to get it to do it while up on jack stands.

Here are the other photos you requested:

I'll put the other 10T sprocket back on just gotta figure out how to space it.

Think somehow adding a tensioner could help? I can't get the chain any tighter.

I can also try denting in the cross member but with how much the chain is jumping I don't think that's going to help much.

Just dent it in enough to clear by 1/4”. The 10 tooth and a Comet belt should fix you right up. You could use some electrical conduit for spacers depending on diameter of shaft. Or maybe pipe?
